What shoes/sandals

What shoes/sandals do you wear with shorts/crop trousers during the summer?

I'm trying to revamp my summer wardrobe after a few years of NZ summers (flip flops and walking sandals being about as much as was ever needed).

I now find myself totally clueless about what to wear so that I don't look utterly scruffy (doesn't help that I'm hugely overweight and don't handle the heat well. I'm working on the weight part, but it isn't exactly an overnight job).

I also have feet that are a bit delicate so anything made of a hard material will rip them to shreds.

Canvas runners? Flip flops? Or will I just keep to my previous kiwi scruffiness?
