Is there a solution to painful thigh rubbing/chafing?

I've not really posted on S&B before, but here goes.

I have finally admitted that I am now a size 18, can't deny it any longer, and for the first time this week in the hot weather I have found my inner thighs rubbing. The skin turned really red and was so painful.

I don't want to wear tights in this hot weather, especially not with maxi skirts/dresses. What is the alternative though? Please don't say something like liberal and frequent application of Vaseline Sad

The only thing I've found that ever works is antiperspirant sprayed on my thighs. I used to suffer terribly, so I sympathise hope you find something that works for you.

Lanacane do an anti chafe cream!
And it's called "chub rub" by the way Wink

Stick antiperspirant applied to the inside of one thigh - works for me and my mum has been doing it for years!

Runners suffer from chafing and you can buy specialist balm. You can get them from Amazon if you haven't got a runners' shop nearby.

Lanacane works a treat and is fab as a primer too as it's exactly the same ingredients as the Smashbox primer.

I suffer from this and found it particularly awful when I was pregnant so cut off a pair of tights to make a sort of pair of shorts. But I don't want to do that again as it's not very comfortable!

Something came up on my Facebook the other day, they were like two large lacy garters designed to stop chub rub, I was very interested!

Yep. Roll on deodorant will solve your problems. On one leg only though!

I'm going to try the deodorant trick!

Get a stick Sure 48-hour dry antiperspirant. Magic.

Does spray deodorant work or does it have to be roll-on?

Bodyglide is good. As is Udderly Smooth. They are chamois creams that cyclists use but are excellent for chub rub Smile.www.wiggle.co.uk/chamois-cream-1/

You can but several products for it. I saw one on a blog velvet ine or something like that? It supposedly helps the legs glide.

I used to use talcum powder. It worked. I think size 16/18 is that tricky stage as at. 22/24 I never suffered. I guess my legs didn't rub they were just together Blush but at a 16/18/20 they did get very sore. Talc definitely helped.

I've never tried spray on - but have been told by others it has to be roll on! Hth

I've had this all my life. I find I have to shave between my legs, twice a day to keep the stubble away and then use either talc or bodyglide.

It isn't about size. I have it whatever size I am, even when an 8. I'm just curvy I guess.

Anti-perspirant - liberally applied to groin and inner thighs. It's the moistness which causes the chafing.

EarSlaps · 28/06/2015 22:48

It's shape, not size that causes this. I'm size 8-10 and I get thigh chafe Grin.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll try the deodorant as an immediate measure then I may try those lacy band things.

I did momentarily think about referring to this issue as chub rub, but didn't as I didn't want to be offensive! Glad I didn't has there are clearly slimmer people that have the same problem.

Thanks again

I'm a size 12 and have it. It sucks. The deodorant never worked on me, but I have the BodyGlide stuff which seems okay so far, it is hard to tell as it hasn't been hot enough...

It does need to be full-on anti-perspirant (not just deodorant) in order to work on me. Also needs to be applied to the, erm, 'whole area' rather than just on the bits of the thigh that touch.

So, with knickers on, apply under the knicker elastic at the top of legs, then right down the insides of both thighs.

I hate hot weather.

I use cut off cycling shorts, or liberal application of olive oil depending on what I'm wearing, how long I'm going to be out etc

Cut off leggings, not cycling shorts
