Hi,

I was wondering if any parents might be able to help me out. I'm writing my dissertation on gender stereotypes within the beauty industry and was looking for a few parents to answer some questions or just a quick opinion about products aimed at children and teens.

I'm mostly interested in how parents feel about gender stereotypes aimed at children through brands such as Lynx.

I would be incredibly grateful if you'd be willing to answer a few questions please let me know, or even just leave a quick opinion in a comment below.

:)

Thanks

Sorry, I didn't mean children that were very young, but i generally mean the rows of pink sparkly cans with names like tease and minx and the steel-grey, macho stuff thats generally aimed at teens.

At such a young and impressionable age maybe this type of marketing and stereotyping is a little inappropriate, and the adverts used by brands such as Lynx promote the very stereotypes of women that Dove (which is owned by the same company) challenges through its real women campaigns.

Why do you think that sparkly pink/ grey packaging is inappropriate? I would also challenge the assertion that Dove is doing much better - real women = very attractive, toned and buffed women who still adhere to a body type. No shots of very overweight women with broken veins, flabby stomachs or saggy boobs, for example.
