black jeans STINK. any tips?

i bought a pair of black jeans from dorothy perkins last autumn and despite washing them several times, i haven't been able to wear them yet as they have a horrible chemical type smell coming from them.

i've rinsed with white vinegar, left them on the washing line in bright sunshine but still no joy.

any ideas please on how to remove the revolting stench that makes me think i've been embalmed?

Take them back to Dorothy Perkins and complain.

As soon as I saw the title I knew your jeans would be from Dorothy Perkins. I had several pairs last year that were the same and nothing at all would shift the smell. I contacted customer services but they were very sniffy about it and asked me to send the jeans back at my own expense to be examined, and stressed that I shouldn't expect any kind of refund.
I've not ordered from them since then, as I feel the quality has just become so bad. Sad
When I've looked at review for their black jeans on their site many have said the same thing about the smell.

I've definitely had black jeans from DP that had this smell. It tends to be the thinner material ones. It's almost not actually denim Confused

Sorry, that doesn't help you get rid of the smell though does it. I threw mine out in the end.

i've emailed them but i'm not expecting a helpful response. shame really as they fit me well (straight leg - i don't like skinnies).

I had a pair of black jeans a while back from DP and the dye was incredibly strong! They brought me out in a terrible itchy rash too. Ended up getting rid.

I've had the same! I washed mine and left them on the line in the sun which seemed to help. Is it a sulphur type smell?

I had the same with jeans from Evans...DH asked me not to wear them again as the smell was making him sick. They're part of the same overall group with Dorothy Perkins. They must have been told of this before!

I did send them back yes, and never heard from them again. I chased it up several times then gave up as I had too much other stuff going on at the time to stress out about. The smell was just awful though. My husband said it was almost like a burning hair smell, and it really was. It was so strong.
Wander - yes it was a bit sulpher like now you mention it.

I had a problem with a dress from topshop a couple of years ago that has the same kind of smell. They refunded in the shop straight away though. Are dp and topshop still both owned by arcadia or did they change hands?

i think if they reply to my email and want me to send them, i'll offer to take them into store and they can send them with other returns.

I've got a New Look pair like that. A weird kind of plastic smell.

i've had a response from dorothy perkins:

"I am very sorry to hear that your jeans have a strange chemical smell.

I would advise taking them to your nearest store for inspection. If you explain the situation and let them smell the jeans they can decided from there if they need to send it to out technologists for further testing.

They can offer you a refund or exchange on the spot at there on discretion."

i will give it a go but if the usual not too jolly face like a bulldog licking piss off a thistle assistant is in there, i doubt she'll say she can smell it or offer a refund at her discretion.

IF you don't get anywhere with the branch, maybe a Tweet to the CEO might get you somewhere? #stinkyjeans will probably pick up loads of other disaffected customers (although you might get some weirdy pervs too...)

Grin thumb

its not as if they were expensive but i'm annoyed that they're unwearable because for once, i thought i'd found some jeans that fit me well (that aren't slouchy boyfriend ones).
