Hair colour advice

My hair is currently a dark brown colour with a few lighter hilights to break it up a bit, but I'm so tired of it. 3 weeks after getting the colour done my roots are quite noticible. Before going dark brown I was spending a fortune on getting a light brown all-over colour and then a half head of hilights to give a blonde look.

So I'm wondering is it possible to get an all-over blonde colour? I seem to recollect that the reason I was spending all that money was because the hairdresser said I couldn'nt just go a single all-over blonde shade, but maybe techniques are better now?

When I say blonde I might mean a caramel colour, as I have brown eyes and sallow skin. Basically a lighter colour so that my grey roots aren't so obvious. Or maybe I need to go ash-blonde, though I had that in my 20s and looking back at pics it was very ageing. But now I am very aged!

Anyone have any advice/opinions on hair colour? I'm 55, reasonably youthful looking (or I'd let it go grey) with shoulder length hair.

Techniques are better now - and there are blond colours that suit us olive skinned beauties grin

Are you colouring your hair yourself, or using a hairdresser? Worth getting a (no obligation no charge) consultation from a decent hairdresser specialising in colour?

Thats a really good idea Ari, I've been going to my current hairdresser for quite a while now because she's (1) local, (2) inexpensive and (3) nice. Maybe not the best reasons for choosing a hairdresser!
