Comfiest Birkenstock Style?

yazzy85 · 19/06/2015 19:10

What's the most comfortable Birkenstock style? I've seen them recommended loads on here and need a pair for holiday. Madrid or Arizona? Or one with a back strap like Rio or Bali?

I've got the Arizona and it is very comfortable but not quite as forgiving to look at on my cankles as the Madrid!

It totally depends on which sub-brand you go for and your fit.

I don't fit any of the Birkenstock traditional ones and go for the Betula range which have more narrow footbed styles. In this range, I find the Woogie the most comfortable. I currently have a lovely pair with cherry print on them.

Tatami I find a bit odd sizing too.

The best thing to do is to get yourself down to a Birkenstock shop, figure out what size and range you suit best and then buy direct from Germany on ebay. So much more style and choice and better prices too!

Dorians. But they're hard to come by.

Gizeh. They are soooo comfy and last years.

Gizehs and Arizonas are comfy, I bought Taboras last summer and they are very comfortable too. The only ones I didn't get on well with were Madrids.

I have Gizeh, Arizona and Sydney. They are all good. I'd say Sydney- though hard to come by -is the more attractive looking as the straps are slightly narrower and look less chunky than Arizona.

I got some Kairos last year - like gizeh but with a strap, so they're even comfier. Here www.birkenstock.co.uk/Product/3203/Kairo-Oiled-Leather-Narrow-Black-147113/

There's more choice in Europe I think - mine are brown, but they had loads of other colours not on the uk website

Oh I like the Sydney and Kairos, never knew these styles existed!

Birkie addict here. Personal faves Gizeh (the toe post doesn't rub, honestly) and Mayari. Least favourite: Madrid as they're just too flappy. Another suggestion is the three narrow strapped Florida. Amazon's great as there are free returns, however note that N means narrow on certain listings and it's the coloured in footbed sign on the suede liner.

Birkenstocks give me blisters.

If it's a holiday where you're going to do lots of walking then a 2 strap style like Arizona or Sydney is better.
Madrids work your calf muscles a lot and if you're not used to them it can get a bit achy after a lot of walking.

My favourites are gizeh, as a pp said the toe post doesn't rub at all

Turin. Usually within papillio sub brand. Pretty (within the confines of being birks!) but can walk miles in them

Florida. I have them in silver, and would like metallic navy next.

I like the look of Mayari too.
