I've recently bought I bruin epilator, I've never used one properly before and I just attempted it but it hurts.

Can anyone recommend a numbing product or tips to help me?

I want to do my legs and eventually my bikini line due to getting a rash from shaving, been invited to a hot tub party next month and don't want to feel unattractive due to the rash.

Thanks girls ????

Ooo it does hurt initially but I promise it does get less painful as it goes along ! Pull the skin taunt as you use it and use short strokes
Hope this helps :)

Oh and I'm not brave enough to use it on my bikini line !! Just use veet ;)

Veet or nair doesn't seem to be strong enough lol I've left it on for 13-15 mins before and it not got rid of them all? And practically burnt myself Shock

I find it hurts less if you do it after a bath, but you do get used to the pain and the first time hurts more as there's more hair coming out at once.

My epilator came with a part to put on the freezer it did help to begin with but not as much as bathing first.

Will antiseptic cream help with my rash for the time being?

The first time I used an epilator I managed half of one leg as it hurt so much! I did the other leg the next night after a hefty glass of wine.

However I soon got used to it and TBH it doesn't hurt at all now.

(Disclaimer - I've not used it on arm pits or bikini line though. I reckon that would hurt like fuck!)

You could take 2 paracetamol half an hour before next attempt, use an ice pack or cool pack and pull skin as taught as possible.
My DD epilates armpits, bikini and legs and doesn't feel it. I only manage legs.

Makes a big difference

I use cold wax strips if my legs are really bad. Then I epilate every few days.

I find the wax strips less painful on the bikini line.

I have invested in an ipl permanent hair reduction device...not much help to you as know you have brought an epilator, but I can relate to your problem with the rash! That's the main reason I brought it as soooo fed up with it and feeling embarrassed for swimming/summer holidays etc. It has really worked so if able to invest I would recommend it! Sorry no advice for the epilator particularly, definitely helps to pull skin taught and then try and apply pressure to the area immediately after to 'deaden' the nerve endings (that's what I was taught with waxing anyway, not sure if possible with an epilator?) .

I have used one for years
I don't have hairs on my legs but once tried it to see what it was like, it was very painful
I do underarms and bikini line. Both hurt the first time. I got DH to really stretch the skin
It get much easier and the hairs get ver weedy and more scarce

Sorry. I don't know what happened to my previous post.

I've been epilating for years and would never dare do my bikini line Grin.
I recommend epilating when the hair is quite short. Do it every couple of weeks to stay on top of it so that you're never epilating with 'full' growth. Also try using talc so that the epilator is able to grip the hairs properly.

I agree with taking a couple of paracetamol before epilating (for the first few times) and holding the skin taut.

I find epilating almost pain free. I really enjoy it! It lasts loads longer than waxing for me.

Numbing gel.
Ibruprofen or lidocaine.

Yeah! It helps.

I wonder if you could use oragel. It's a gum numbing gel but could be used on the skin I imagine. Would have to try it out.

Let us know how it goes.

Ibruprofen, singing & QVC on in the background the first few times when I started using my epilator.
Now I'm hardcore & don't need anything. After the initial first few ouches I quite like the sensation.....I am strange like that as enjoy tweezing my eyebrows........whilst waxing, absolute torture!

Eyebrows - fine
Waxing - bearable
Epilator - horrific
