Problem is I had ankle surgery, so have some swelling and scarring on on foot. Would love a really funky, possibly colourful (think orange, or blue or mustard) type of shoe, that isn't a ballet flat - it needs to be more substantial....

To wear with black wide leg trousers, a tailored white shirt and a fitted black cardigan. Will accessorise with some chunky bracelets/necklace or scarf in the same colour as the shoes....

Hush puppies?

Ah sorry, misread. You DON'T want ballet flats. There are a few more styles on hush puppies website - I always find them comfy and good quality.

Would a brogue work?

Or a loafer?

I love the colour of the orange brogues, but the silver loafers are perfect style wise.... Just scared silver is too out there, and worried fat foot may not fit into brogues.... confused

It's okay, I have been talked down from a great height! Have changed colour plan, and gone for some nude brogue style loafers from schuh...

The reason being it will work with my make up (is that a fucking weird reason?) I was thinking previously I'd wear a bold coloured lipstick, but as it's been pointed out I'm in a room all day and don't want the lipstick coming off or onto my teeth (not a regular make up wearer here) so pale accents will work with lip gloss....

Tethersend, I may have to wrestle you and pantsalive for the snakeskin grin

Now... Maybe I should stop farting about looking for shoes and do some bloody reading for the damn thing....

And can I just say thanks for the help and pointers flowers

Sounds very sensible.
Good luck trashcan. Hope all goes well.
