I HAVE to review this! Philips Lumea.

I read about the Lumea on here and ended up ordering the plus one.

Bit of background:

I am white with dark hair that is really quite coarse. I've struggled with body hair all my life and quite frankly just gave up the last few years because my regrowth is awful.

Even shaving my armpits I would have itchy stubble within 12-14 hours.

My bikini area I just left as a bush because the itching with shaving would be immediate and the regrowth came through within hours.

So I bought the Lumea a few weeks ago. Used it on my pits, facet, bikini area, legs.

I wasn't sure anything was happening first because I shaved, zapped and straight away the normal regrowth came through but I did my 2nd round 2 weeks later Sunday and my god. I would say 60-70% of my bikini line hair is gone. I vet had no itching.

Same with my underarms!
I didn't end up doing my legs Sunday (need to)

And I would say 90% of my lip hair is gone!!

It's absolutely amazing. I'm writing this because the hefty price really put me off but I'm so glad I got it and I'm only 2 weeks in with 2 treatments done!!

Hurrah! Sounds like you've had a brilliant result.

I'm saving my pennies for one. Permanently hair free pits is my dream!

It's brilliant! I had tried everything. Wax, hair removal creams, shaving. It all left me sore and itchy. This is a total revelation Grin

It's changed my life. I used to be shaving every other day. It's worth every penny.

Just keep at it. I can't remember when's the last time I did my legs or arms. I only have to touch up my armpits and bikini line now. And it's only a few hair coming back.

Is it a gross question to ask - if it's been so successful for you, would you consider selling yours on? Hefty price tag puts it out of my reach but shaving/waxing is a constant pain here too...

Mine worked ok ish but very very time-consuming so I stopped bothering and now it's conked out. I've got one leg hairier than the other.

I have a similar skin/hair combo and have been using one on my legs. The re-growth is so much more manageable for using it - I no longer have to worry about whether I've shaved in the past 24 hours before putting some shorter trousers on if it turns out warmer than I was expecting. I've noticed that the stubble I do get is softer, too, so presumably mostly newer hairs rather than blunt, coarse old ones growing back.

I wouldn't sell mine on as you do need to keep on using it occasionally to maintain your hair free status!

Report
HeadDreamer · 17/06/2015 12:46

Yes you need to do maintenance zaps. Very infrequently on the legs and arms for me. About every 1-2 months on the pits and bikini lines.

HeadDreamer · 17/06/2015 12:47

But I will sit there for 5min to do my legs happily to have hair free legs!

Yes! I had three goes on mine (fortnightly) and had the same results. I've been away for weekends and nights out and not having to shave or pack a razor is amazing Grin

Expensive but worth it.

I have to admit when I first read threads about the lumea, that I did an advanced search on some of the posters, as I couldn't quite believe they were genuine and not just a brilliant marketing campaign.

After convincing myself they were real, I bought one in April and it's amazing! Grin I shave my legs about once a week, instead of every day (sometimes twice a day) and it's only the odd patch which really needs doing.

It's also stopped ingrown hairs & I used to get them all the time.

Me too- anyone got a link? Does it hurt?

I'm desperate for one of these. I'd like to know which model too.

I don't think it's a good idea to buy one secondhand because as far as I'm aware each Lumea has a limited amount of zaps and once you reach 20,000 (or whatever number it may be) the machine is then redundant.

I'd love one too.

I see there is one on Argos website for £209, but then there are other models that are much more expensive. There are a few good reviews for the cheaper one though.

Also, there were other brands of IPL device that were cheaper again. Has anyone tried any of those ones?

I've epilated for the last 20 years, with the odd wax thrown in for fun. I have fewer hairs, but they are still dark and I've been umm-ing and ahh-ing about a lumea for months and months. Does it work on epilated legs/pits/bikini line or am I going to have to start shaving? I'm lethal with a razor, so it's not a great idea!

Can you use on facial hair, please?

also, which model are you using (and cost?)

thank you

I'm using the precision plus version and it was £400 (ouch!!) But I did get it from Will worths with a year's interest free thingy so I'm paying off £50 a week and won't pay any interest.

I use it on my face yes and all over my bikini, including undercarriage.

It doesn't hurt. But some areas I do 'jump' at the flash. The best description I've heard is like a snap from an elastic band. But I only get that when it's turned up to 5 AND on a sensitive area.

I wouldn't sell it because I've only just started treatment and you still need to use it intermittently.

Zul epilators pull the root out? You need the root there to be able to zap it I think. You can't wax then do it.

Also if you zap hair it stinks (don't use it without shaving first!)
