What on earth do people wear to church christenings?

I've got a navy crepe Allium B dress but would have to wear with opaques a and ankle boots if it's cold and think that might look a bit worky

Am thinking like a wedding but a bit less dressy - it's a family thing none of my friends are formal church types. Any clues?

Yes. As you have been described but it also depends whether it's a separate christening service or as part of normal Sunday worship (it is at our church). If it's a normal service there will be normal congregation in jeans / casual so it can be hard to be appropriately dressed for a christening.

No one wears jeans to church where I am. Is this a C of E service? I think wedding is too over the top. Your dress sounds nice. Could you bring a bag that is clearly not "worky" to balance it?

Don't worry about the church bit. Some families dress to the nines, some don't. But the feeling is usually far more Sunday frock than wedding, and warmth more than glamour. It's a celebration, so looking nice is good, but not OTT.

What is your family like? Would they be offended by jeans/trousers? If so, don't wear them. If they wouldn't and you have nice ones, the church won't care. The dress sounds great. Take a warm coat. Many churches can be cold. And if it is cold you are not expected to shiver for the sake of elegance, looking longingly at the baby's rugs.

And anyway, if the church does care, it can just FRO. Jesus wouldn't have...

Your dress and boots will be fine, christrnings are no where near as dressy as weddings. As long as your smart it's fine

Your outfit sounds lovely to me.

Would the dress work with red Mary Jane's though? And nude tights? I like red and navy together, and if the dress is crepe you could go for a 50s vibe?

That said, what you already have in mind will be perfect for a church christening, IMO.
