Is long hair more attractive and youthful, in your opinion? What length is your hair? How attractive do you feel?

After having long hair for the last 30+ years, I recently got mine cut to shoulder length.

I can still tie it up so its not super short, but I have a tiny ponytail when I do.

Anyway, I'm only 35 so not that old but...

Celebrities seem to all have long, bouncy, glossy hair. My hair was nice the day it was blow dried but as soon as I stepped outside if it was raining or my second day hair was not great.

I really did fancy a change but I'm wondering if I feel less attractive with shorter hair, I don't really know why? Maybe I did subconsciously hide behind it.

So my question, do you think length of hair has any bearing on attractiveness? Not that it's all about looks, I know that, but ykwim!

How do you feel about your hair and looks?

I do actually like my new hairstyle and that's the thing it's a style rather then just long hair but I suddenly feel different to what I'm used to and maybe a bit invisible.

I have had all lengths of hair and felt most attractive with very long or very short! However mine is sort of long bob length at the moment and its a bit 'nothingy' because I don't have time to style it properly every day. I'm growing it....

I'm not hideously ugly, and I have a short pixie cut. I actually think that I look a lot better than when I had long hair (and which I definitely hid behind!).

Mine is past my shoulders, heading for bra-strap and I do feel much more feminine/attractive with it at this length. I also think that it is more forgiving on 'bad hair days', as there is more to 'distract' iyswim.

On the other hand, I have to plait it at night and am starting to consider the occasional up-do to make it look more formal on occasion.

I've had all lengths of hair, from a very short crop to waist-length. I'm enjoying having shoulder length hair again now but feel like I look like everyone else. When I had short hair I felt like it was more striking/individual and that I stood out from the crowd more. Which made me feel more attractive.

Mine is past my bra strap. I've never had it properly short, but its very thick, so when I've had it between chin and shoulder length in the past it has tended to be very blocky and stuck out at weird angles. It needs length to pull it down and make it hang nicely. It's a pain in the arse having it this long, but whenever I get a few inches chopped off I regret it and pine for it.

I think it depends on the length of hair and hair cut being right for your face shape more than absolute length. And what you're used to too.

I had a very short pixie cut 5 years ago which was fab.
My hair is not bra-strap length and I like it.
I am seriously considering going for a longer pixie again soon.

I've got a jaw length , just slightly below ear, cut, sort of a bob.
I love it, but it does have to be cut at least every 6 weeks. It does make me feel so much more groomed than my long hair did.

I wouldn't go back.

A work friend has long hair, plays with it continuously,running it through her fingers, leans her head from side to side so that it moves in a way that is plainly pleasing to her and flicks it.

I recently had my bra-strap length hair chopped into a pixie. I was worried I'd feel less attractive and sexy, but it has not proved to be the case. I've had loads of compliments - mainly from women, tbf, but I also seem to get noticed by men more. My long hair looked beautiful when I had time to do it properly but I so rarely did that it mostly just hung there, being a bit of a frizzy mess. And I made less effort with my appearance generally because I could hide behind it - I don't have that luxury now, but I do have the bit of extra time I needed to put on some make-up and pick out a decent outfit.

I feel more confident than I have since having my children.

Some people suit the short hair so much it would be ridiculous for them to stick to the flowing locks just because it's culturally considered more attractive. I had it pixie-short a handful of times in the past and it wasn't terrible, not sure it's my best look though.

I've had my hair cut shoulder length earlier this week mostly because it's been a year since my last cut and so in terrible condition. I do prefer it longish but here's my main reason:

in the main, as you get older your hair gets thicker/drier and long hair on older women doesn't often look very good. Most older women I know have hair between short and shoulder-length. therefore, I reckon I should make the most of my long-hair days.

Mine's longer than a pixie but still short and heavily layered. Every now and then I think of growing it but DH talks me out of it. It is quite high maintenance, regular cuts etc but less so than a bob.

Medium length and growing it longer which I like on me. I wouldn't like to have it short again- I did once and got many compliments, but grew it straight out as I personally wasn't impressed and it just wasn't me.
I do like some short styles on others such as Victoria Beckham's kind of spiky long bob.

I've had long hair all my life but had it cut short about 5 years ago (I'm 49 now).

I had so many people complimenting me on the short cut and several friends/collegues had their hair cut short soon after, as seeing mine gave them the confidence to do it. I know short really suits me but I miss my long hair very much. I think it's cos I know I'm getting old!

I can't grow my hair because it's really fine, so I've had a crop of some sort for as long as I can remember. There's nothing to hide behind, so I always wear a ton of makeup to counteract any masculinity. I think, actually, that's the trick with short hair: it's ok as long as you make the effort elsewhere. I'm lucky in that I have a small face.

Tbh I prefer short hair on slebs anyway: look at Halle Berry, for example.

I think short bobs always look good, too, with the right accessories/ styling.

I'm 53 and recently had my hair cut shorter than I've had it since I was a child. I love it! Everybody who has commented on it has said how lovely it is and several have said it takes years off me. I wish I'd had it done years ago. I don't have fabulous bone structure (far from it) and I could do with losing a stone or two so it's very far from a gamine look, but it just seems to suit my face/head shape so much better than longish hair.

It depends on the face and the hair. Thin wispy hair is better a bit shorter, rats tails not a good look. Same with big bushy dry neglected hair. Some faces are too big or don't have the right shape to carry off very short hair. Of course there is an inbetween length which suits most people better than short or long.

I think long hair is generally more forgiving, although as code says there is nothing gorgeous about a giant head of dried-out neglected frizz. Short hair can look totally fantastic but you need the right face for it to work and not everyone can get away with it. I do envy those who can, though, as it can look fabulous.

Personally I don't think long, greying hair looks great. I'm not dying my hair (for now, anyway) and I would say the increasingly grey bits at the temples look a lot better very short than they did when my hair was longish.

I've had long, longish hair all my life. The last 30 years was spent with it in a jaw length or slightly longer highlighted bob.

Then five years ago I started to grow it . It's now about bra strap length. I'll probably keep it about that length.

I'm lucky that it is still very brown so i can have it blonde streaked regularly .
I do feel younger with long hair ( I'm 63) because it's almost all I've known. The one time I had it chopped to a short crop I did not feel feminine. I was told I suited it but began to grow it straight away.

It's so versatile. I can leave it down, pin it up when it's hot or windy.

I definitely want to avoid the grey, permed helmet when I'm in my 70 s

I used to have head-turning hair, bra strap length, golden and strawberry blonde, wavy/curly, bouncy, gorgeous. But only when I could be bothered making it look like that. Most of the time it was in a pony/plait/bun.
I got it cut, and have settled on a layered bob that's somewhere between my jaw and my shoulders. Just long enough to tie back for sports etc. My hair no longer turns heads, but on a day to day basis I look much more groomed.

Depends on the face shape and type of hair. I have long hair at the moment but I've had crops and bobs in the past. I look better and younger when it is long - I have a roundish face so longer lengths suit it best, and my hair is naturally straight and shiny so a longer length shows it off. I don't think I'd bother with long hair if I had to straighten it or worry about rain or humidity all the time.
