If you're nearly 50 how is your skin?

I thought mine was OK but I looked in a friends illuminated magnifying mirror and it really isn't.

I have lots of bumps including possibly a wart on my nose, a few blackheads, a couple of melia and black bruising for dark circles. Matched with the eye wrinkles it is not a pretty sight.

I've been oil cleansing, applying a good moisturiser & drinking gallons of water.

I'm quite confident that my decent makeup covers most of it, but is there anything else I could do?

Regular facials or a miracle cream?

I am 55 and have good skin...but it is prone to congestion, blocked pores.
I have used dermalogica for about 20 years....their daily microexfolient is very gentle. I use it about 3 times a week.
Facial every 6 weeks.
I avoid the sun completely.

Well the biggest mistake you made was using a magnifying mirror. My main advice is to never, ever do that again.

I'm hurtling towards 60 at an alarming rate. I cleanse, moisturise, use a sunscreen, don't smoke or sunbathe and don't drink much alcohol (but I do have a coffee and sugar habit). That's about it.

My skin's getting saggy but let's face it, I'm begining to get old. All things considered, I think it's pretty good.

Thanks MrsDB, I occasionally use the REN glycolic peel thing but a gentle exfoliater might be better.

Will investigate local facials.

I'm hearing you Flois, probably sound advice.
I normally peer in the mirror without my reading glasses and all looks peachy, if rather blurred!

Why would you look in a magnifying mirror?? Ignore it and carry on being happy with youself. That's priceless. If you thought you kooked pretty good before, I bet you still look pretty good.

I have very sensitive skin and treatments like Perl's/micro seem abrasion are just not for me.
Even though I'm on reduced income now ( recently divorced), I won't give up Dermalogica...don't want to waste money on something cheaper which doesn't work.

I'm nearly 49. I have some wrinkles but my skin is in pretty good condition. I cleanse at night with Bioderma Crealine and use a moisturiser (good quality but chop and change). In the morning I cleanse with a Clarisonic and gel cleanser and use a moisturising mask (Nuxe). I see my dermatologist periodically to zap thread veins/milia/mini bumps as they appear.

I should have said, I have very sensitive skin too which is partly why I don't use lots of products or treatments (the other reason is that I think they're mostly useless).
For what it's worth, another bit of advice is that up until my 50s, I could slap pretty much anything on my skin without any problem. Not any more...

Mine's okaaay…..very thin and dehydrated with lots of fine lines and crepeyness around the eyes and the under chin area. But it's clear and uncongested and I very rarely get spots or blackheads. My pores have become much more visible in recent years, especially on my chin, but overall my skin has a smooth texure even if it is as saggy as hell.

I have a very wrinkly forehead and pronounced number 11s between my eyes which I occasionally get botox for, but botox seems to bring its own problems, like a much more pronounced look of crepeyness on the upper eyelids, which move too much to compensate for the frozen forehead, so I blow hot and cold with botox. I can never decide whether I look better with or without it.

I find botox a bit like those huge high/long control knickers. You know how they make one area look better but the fat has to go somewhere so you end up with it squishing out of your ribcage or just above your knees? Shock

With botox the muscle movement is just displaced to somewhere else on the face so you get bunny lines on your nose and your eyes go all piggy and crepey when you smile. Basically you can't fucking win and you can run but you can't hide. Grin

I have some dark, grey-purples shading under my eyes which I hate. I really dislike the general look of ageing but all things considered I'd say it could be worse.

I'm 47. My skin is in really good condition. No nose to mouth lines, or eye bags. I have one line on my forehead, and a few very fine lines around my eyes but only when I laugh.

I'm 55 and my skin is good, I think, for my age. I think it's down mainly to covering myself in panstik when younger so the sun couldn't get through. Now I use a Garnier moisturiser and primer before adding slap. That's about it.

I can really see the difference between my sun-damaged decolletage and my face. It looks as though my head's on the wrong bodyGrin

I get lots of "you're good for your age" comments....

On the plus side: I don't get many spots, and have no crows feet yet. I have been careful to use a moisturiser with SPF for the last ten years or so and I am sure that has made a difference. On the minus side: the bottom half of my face is saggy, so I look really depressed unless I am smiling. My eyelids have drooped quite a lot too, so my eyes are disappearing. Sometimes, if I am not careful, I catch sight of my neck in an unflattering light Shock so I try not to look too closely.

Am 48 and skin is okay ish
was prone to chin spots until I started double cleansing and using effaclar duo.
I have frown lines between eyes and dark circles but not really many wrinkles.
my skin is oily though.
I use YSL fusion foundation at the minute which makes my skin look nice I think.

I'm 47 and I don't 'think' I look it.

After suffering oily skin and acne for many years my skin looks clear now. (Thanks to currently taking Spironolactone and using Epiduo twice a week).
I don't wear make up much. Eyeliner and mascara perhaps once or twice a week. Foundation never. I wash with soap and water and slap on either some Nivea or Cetaphil moisturiser or none.
However I caned the sunbeds as a teen/twenties so the texture of the skin on my neck and chest is quite wrinkled and patchy. Not too many facial wrinkles yet though.
I suspect in another 15 years I'll resemble Madge from Benidorm...Grin

I'm 56 and think I have good skin for my age, no wrinkles, no crows feet, no 'smokers' lines round my mouth.

My neck is also wrinkle free up to now and the only area of crepeyness is my cleavage but, hey, you shouldn't be looking there and I don't have it on show Smile

I use a liquid facewash, moisturise with Nivea soft, use Clinique eye cream and put Bio Oil on my face and neck at bedtime.

On a slightly different matter I looked in car mirror yesterday before setting off and all I could see was chin hair and moustache coming back , it's fair but IMO it's noticeable, get the lip waxed every 6 weeks but think I may increase that. I'm on my way to 50, skin good though .

I'm 50. My skin is not great. I get occasional spots on my cheeks, bumpy under the skin spots on my temples and a very attractive rash between my eyebrows. Oh and don't forget the dark under eye circles.

Having said that, I don't have too many wrinkles and people say I look younger than I am.

I don't know if i look better or worse with foundation on. Sometimes I think it aggravates my skin.

I will be 50 in August. I use a gentle exfoliant a few times a week, a face a mask a couple of times a week and I don't think it looks too bad.

I am though once I have finished my pot of Elemis Pro Collagen Marine cream going to switch to Dermalogica. I have used Elemis for a few years but think that the Dermalogica will suit my skin better - I was given a travel pack to try and loved it.

I'm 49 and use the magnifying mirror to check for stray chin and lip hair, I then go back to a normal mirror and wonder at how lovely my skin is.Grin

I am lucky in that I don't have wrinkles, it's purely genetic as both my mum, dad and grandmothers looked very young for their age. But, as life is never perfect, I do get spots. Since using effaclar duo and sudacreme, my skin is much better.

My advice would be, keep your routine simple- it can not be good for you to use numerous products. It must be rather confusing for the skin.

54, skin not bad at all, a few (age-related) open pores. I use Dermalogica, and rate it highly. It might sound££ but in reality, you generally need a very small amount of product, making cost per use pretty good.

OP, I am wondering if the oil-cleansing is too rich for your skin? I use Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel, which is just like a face wash.

Those who mention the cleavage....ideally you should treat this as an extension of your face, using the same products, and SPF. Keep shower gel away, and avoid spraying perfume on your neck, as it's very drying.

Im 55 quite a smooth forehead, but lately have noticed crows feet lines seem to be, spreading down the sides of my cheeks, open pores round side of nose/chin, sometimes get spots on my chin, have been trying to follow the quicey thread, but
somewhat confused, by all the products/methods being mentioned am, double cleansing(SD hot cloth & micellar water) also using the nip n fab pads, which have helped with the brown spots & skin feels much softer
& cleaner, but not sure what a serum is & what moisturisers/toners to use

Want to start looking after my skin better, As have been quite ill the, last
couple of years & just want 2 feel better about myself.

Hurtling towards 50 at the rate of knots. I have no idea what age I look. (Prob 50!!)

Some crows feet which I loathe. Other than that not bad I think. I have the usual facial fat loss that comes with age, what a bugger. And I do think my face is 'falling' a wee bit. I've had bitching oily skin all my life, I think that might have helped.

My routine? Feck all. Fastidious about daily sunscreen. Wash am and pm with Avène or LRP. Retin-A most nights. On the odd night off I use this.
