S&B loathes

Inspired by the Lipstick Queen are crap thread, I've got things I need to get off my chest (so to speak).

Nude lipstick, can't bear it. Hate, hate the 'foundation coloured lips' look.

There are others but that is my most loathed thing at the moment.

Do other people have things that the whole world seems to love but them?

Peplum dresses
Red fingernails
Those black wedge suede boots that make the wearer's feet look like hooves

pictish · 27/04/2015 13:36

Denim cut-offs where the lining of the pocket is longer than the shorts. Looks shit.

Nabootique · 27/04/2015 13:38

Nude hoof shoes (took the name from another MNer)
Beige lips
Bad contouring (if it's noticeable then I think it looks awful!)
Those thick fake nails, gel or acrylic, the ones that make that "clacky" noise on everything and are usually bright white french manicured

agree with the peplum dresses and the shorts with the pocket bits! :)

Blush

And those bandage dresses where it pushes everything in and up and even the slimmest end up looking like they have back fat bulges and squashed together boobs!

Boots with toes out
Nude lippy
Bright blue or yellow or green nails
Nails like talons
Obviously false eyelashes
Obvious fake tan
The four boob effect when bra doesn't fit
Pyjamas worn outdoors
Slippers worn to the shop

High heel trainers. What's the point? Wear real heels! There are so many beautiful heeled shoes to choose from!

Beautiful dresses/others full-length clothes that can't be taken up, and that don't come in a choice of lengths. Because I'm short! Grin

Another vote here for bright red nails. Or indeed bright pink or orange.

polyhymnia · 27/04/2015 13:55

And very heavy makeup with thick powdery foundation and ' spidery' over mascara-ed lashes and bright red lips .

Fake tan and lashes.
Gel nails (hate the feel of them).
Nail "art".

Controversially, I don't just get on with complicated beauty routines using loads of products. My face likes simple and rebels against too much faffing around.

Agree I loathe peplum dresses and tops too.
Also hate bad eyebrows. We all know a bad eyebrow when we see it. Usually a big, shiny black slug type.
Ott fake tans or excessive sunbed use.
Men with their tops off in warm weather. Fine if at beach or poolside but not shopping in city centre.
Men in shorts in freezing weather. When did this become a thing? Usually flip flops too!

So much here to agree with.

Nails like talons, yes
High heel trainers/hoofs yes
Visible pocket shorts yes

Skinny jeans with a rip across the knee (so you can bend your leg?)
Ballerina pumps

Shoes with pointy toes! Sorry but no, not for me under any circumstances, in any guise.

AGREED!! Peplum dresses - not a fan! Likewise nude lips.

Also on my list of pet peeves:

Leggings worn in place of trousers (not a fan of looking at your underwear/lack thereof).

Patent (i.e. shiny) nude heels. Even the swanky Louboutin ones can look tacky... Presumably the whole point of wearing nude heels is to create the illusion of longer legs, so the shiny texture defeats the purpose...

Designer bags that scream designer bag i.e Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior - the styles with the brand name written all over the place. They're rarely very attractive styles so I can only assume you've bought one because you want to demonstrate the fact you've got a grand or two spare for a handbag.

Anything neon/fluorescent pink, yellow, green etc.

Hair extensions fitted into much shorter hair so that the wearer looks like they have a mullet.

Handbags with any gold chain detailing. Many a nice bag has been defiled through the use of gold chain detailing.

Anything quilted.

I still love ballerina pumps!

Yes to clothes that can't be taken up, ie all full length skirts, ever.

I hate crop tops. I know that makes me sound 100.

Studs or diamante on anything at all.

Report
polyhymnia · 27/04/2015 14:07

Btw all mine - and I'll probably think of more - are very much matters of personal taste, not what I think other people 'should' do or like.

Also agree with leggings-as-trousers. You can see EVERYTHING.

Also hate exposed zips, especially on otherwise beautifully delicate dresses.

Toeless boots - what is the point?! Either the weather is cold (boot) or it's warm (peeptoe).
Fashion singulars - a bold lip, a strong eye, etc. Are you a Picasso painting? Are all your features arranged down one side of your face?
Peplums. Not flattering first time round either for the generous of hip.
Boyfriend jeans. Ditto.
Bronzer. Makes me look like I need a wash, even the expensive stuff.
Harem pants. Fine when worn barefoot and tousled in the Hush catalogue. A shoe conundrum in real life.
Those flat gladiator sandals that look good on about seven people in the UK.

I don't mind nail art, I even occasionally do a bit on my own nails. Mine tend to be more of a variation on the classic french tip though. Not sure how people think they would get anything done with some of the designs I've seen...

Oh yes, agree any handbag with 'gold' chain detailing - or indeed any heavy or obvious metalware at all, but particularly gold.

How could I forget non-opaque leggings?!! Hideous.

Also large logos on clothes, especially Juicy couture written in diamanté on the bum of velour trousers.

Platform shoes/brothel creepers - they look clunky/clumsy, and always look too try-hard, as if the person wearing them is an aspiring fashionista and is hoping to be photographed for the 'street-style' section of a magazine...

I'm with Polyhymnia. Mine are personal taste. I fully accept that nude lipstick can look beautiful. I just don't like it at all.

Grin shoe conundrum

I think jj might be describing what includes the nude hoof shoes. Agree with leggings as outerwear. Can't believe I didn't say it myself.

If we're including words, I hate "a pop of colour". Grrr.
