How can I get my shoes to stay on my feet?

I seem to have issues getting high court shoes that I wear to work to stay on my feet. I can't understand it - they kind of slip off my feet at the back. To be honest, I think the backs of my ankles are weird - I can't wear sling-backs at all because they just slip off, no matter how tight they are.

So, is there any thing that could help my shoes stay on my feet please Hmm?

You might have slim backs to your ankles?
You can buy suede plasters which you stick inside your shoes at the back and also try gel pads in your shoes (party feet), they might give you more grip. Or insoles to make the fit snugger.

I've developed the same problem after losing weight. In general I can only wear shoes that have straps to secure them to my feet. It's so frustrating but buying a smaller size just crushes my feet .

I have always had this problem. So always wear shoes with a high front or strap at the front or ankle. Shame as they do nothing to make my short legs any better.

Might be worth having your feet properly measured - I used to have same problem wearing size 7 and just thought the backs of my heels were weirdly flat and didn't keep the shoe on. Then I got them measured - I am actually only a 6 (and sometimes a 5.5) but my feet are really wide so when I was moving up a size because my foot wouldn't go in the 6 the shoe would be too long so would slip off.

Same here. no matter what brand or how well they fit, as soon as I move in court shoes, loafers, ballet flats or slingbacks, I walk out of them or end up doing a strange toe clenching walk that gives me corns.
I'd love a pair of those wedge shoes that Kate wears, waaaaah.
For the past 10 years or so everything has a strap so I've a nice collection of Mary janes and sandals.
I've come to the conclusion it's just the shape of the back of my heel, it just goes straight down with no curve at all for a court shoe to fit round.

Me too. Can only wear shoes that are, pretty much, strapped to my feet. I have very high arches so have always assumed it's something to do with that.

I found some soft foam heel grips in Tesco today for 3 quid, worked a treat.Smile

I always thought it was just me who had this problem! I've tried lots of insoles and heel grip type things, but the only thing that works is straps! I'm ok in flat shoes though, it's just high ones (for work) that I step out of.

Thanks for the replies. Glad I'm not the only one with freaky feet. I bought a pair of Clarks peep toes yesterday and they were fine in the shop (I walked a lot because I know I have this issue). Literally, as I was walking to my car this morning I could feel that they were going to slip off all day and they did.

CharlieBrown yes, I thought I should try a smaller size so I bought 5.5 instead of my usual 6 (I gave multiple pairs of Clarks shoes/boots, all of which are size 6), but it didn't solve the problem.

Will look for some heel grips, nothing to lose. Looks like I am destined for Mary Janes which are nice, bought I really dream of a lovely pair of stilletos - I saw a gorgeous pair if orange parent ones half price in the Dune sale but I think they are not meant to be Confused

They are ok in the shop because your feet are hot and swollen from shopping I reckon, the in the morning on fresh rested feet, all slippy.

+1 for the suede sticker thingys! I have same problem which is not helped by the fact that I always buy size 8 when I am really only a 7.5 ish!

I found some gel stick on heel grips from primark work well. Also I had to put 2 pairs of insoles into my shoes. This does the trick!

I'm another life time Mary Janer too :(

I have wide feet with a high instep and just walk out of shoes with no straps all the time. Stilettos, ballet flats, sling backs, no shoes stay on.

I have this problem too. I have narrow feet with a high instep. I have given up and only wear shoes with a strap.

Maybe everyone has this problem and we have all been putting up with it?

I would try a combination of a half insole and heel grips (what people are referring to above as suede stickers). You may just need half insoles; you may just need heel grips or you may need both.

Also for sling backs, have a look in Boots - amongst gel pads etc as they do a clear sling back insert. Again you may need a combo.

If it turns out you need an insole, some high end cobblers will insert a half insole under the actual shoe liner for you - so it just looks like a normal shoe and you don'thave to faff about yourself with an insole.

I'd try going down a size. I thought I was a sz 6 who couldn't wear heels.. Turns out I'm a 5!

I have this problem with high heeled peep toe shoes.
I "solved" it by sticking my feet to the shoes with body tape.
I now make sure I buy high shoes with ankle straps.

These work but only on bare feet (ie no tights or stockings)

I have this issue and it annoyed me so much I actually went and did a shoe making course yes this was a complete overreaction to figure out why shoes never fit me (long narrow foot with collapsed arches).

2 reasons:

  1. The lasts (molds) they use for mass market/high st shoe production are wide - this is because a narrow footed person can fit into a wide shoe but not vice versa, so it maximises their market. So don't buy shoes that don't fit!

  1. Interestingly, a lot of the time when people complain about heel slippage it's actually because there is too much volume in the front of the shoe, so the foot is slipping forward and out of the heel, which allows it to lift. Try putting a half insole into the front of the shoe (under the ball of the foot) and that will probably help too.

i thought it was only me who had this problem. i have fantasised about finding a shoe for the summer that has a tiny plastic strap kind of like clear bra straps. not perfect, but better than never being able to wear these kind of shoes. i don't fancy the idea of stick on grips.
