Is it frumpy or ok for a summer dress for a woman who has slightly flabby upper arms but is slim elsewhere- size 8-10

High risk of frumpy but also plenty of potential not to be. Depends on how you wear it, your hair and well, your attitude. If in any doubt don't risk it!

Shoulder length hair, slightly layered messy bob, dark blonde. Would wear with plimsolls- eg Keds, Superga type stuff.

How thin are you? I think it would work best on someone thin

With plimsoles and a denim jacket or similar I think you'd get away with it, but not with delicate sandals and a cardigan. I am a similar size (same hair too!) and I think I'd keep looking.

MrsM- see above- prob an 8 or a 10 at most-depends on the fit.

I love tea dresses and wish I was an 8-10. I say go for it.

For £129 you could buy four similar dresses from other shops, it's too 'meh' for the money imo. Not horrid, not frumpy as such, just dull. Sorry.

Wow £129 for a dinner ladies tabard.
Not a chance on my watch I'm afraid!

Not a fan. Sorry. Too expensive for what it looks like.

No way. It looks all of £19.99 from New Look (nothing wrong with that by the way) - so no way for the price. And the pattern is really horrid - whoever said dinner lady tabard is spot on - awful colour mix, harsh and just utterly unimaginative.

The idea and the look would be fine, but you could practically walk into any high street shop blindfold and find a nicer version of that.

here you go True bargain!

Don't like it, sorry. No idea re 'frumpiness' because it depends on so much more than just a garment, but I don't like the pattern.

Frumpy as hell..

It certainly doesn't look like it's worth £129 and there's no way I'd pay that for a day dress, nor any dress that doesn't have a complete "wow" factor.

I think what you team it with would depend how frumpy it was. However, if floral tea dresses are your thing, I'm sure you won't have to look too far to find far less expensive, stylish ones that that.

How about this for £22.50? www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Dickins+Jones+Drape+firefly+dress/199554160,default,pd.html

God no dont.

Patterns are for cheaper items of clothing as they always look rubbish after a while.

Go for timeless.

How can they justify that price for viscose?

SwedishEdith · 10/02/2015 22:25

I like it - if it was £109 cheaper.

With everyone else on this. Expensive and dull. You'll do much better in one of the bargains recommended.

Toooldtobearsed · 11/02/2015 05:42

Ouch, too expensive.
But ont em question posed, this is always the sort of dress I gravitate towards, and buy.
Then I get home and realise I look dumpy in it, unless I wear heels.
I am a size 10, so,either 12 depending on sizing.

It is very pretty though Smile

I can sort of see it might work if you are a winsome 19 year old student with flowing hair cycling through the dreaming spires of Oxford and on your way to do some code breaking at Bletchley Park. If you're not then I'd steer clear. As others have said it looks overpriced. It may be much nicer in real life mind.

I prefer the dress hellsbells linked to tbh, and £115 cheaper!

Unfortunately the only size left is XS, which helpfully doesn't seem to appear on their size guide, but presume would fit a size 8.

Oh wait, found it by googling - XS for asos is a size 6 apparently, no good for me. Boo.

Floisme · 11/02/2015 11:22

I don't know about you but floaty fabric doesn't work for me any more. I like the shape and the colours though.

Bluebell's dress is pretty but short and that V neck is quite low so I'd so no to that too (personally).

You've written an Academy Award for it there Lovelymarchhare

In about 6 weeks you won't be able to move for summer dresses OP.
