What tights with short black dress and black peep toe shoes?

Opaque black tights seem a bit boring with a plain black dress and shoes for a party. Can a 36yo mum get away with sparkly, coloured or patterned tights?

Dress actually looks better in real life than in the picture. And my hairy legs really set it off nicely.

Any jewellery advice would be very welcome too.

Lovely outfit. That's a fab dress.

I'd get a pair of nude toeless tights (think boots do them) and paint the toenails on view burgundy or a nice dark purple.

Dangly earrings & a wide cuff bracelet would be good. Primark or new look have some fab costume jewellery or sometimes I find good stuff in the oasis sale. Have fun!!

SPARKLY? SPARKLY!

Thanks d0ttyne11 but I really don't like my legs so would rather cover them up a but more. Would it make a difference if I wore closed shoes?

Trufflesnout - sparkly?

No, not sparkly.

Either nude or black opaque. And closed toe shoes.

Jewellery - long chain, 70s style to match the neckline.

Lovely dress.

Nude tights. Your arms are bare, so legs need to 'match'. Well, that's my opinion am no fashion guru.

No tights! you have lovely legs. Scrub, shave, moisturise. Paint your toenails. Much better.

Jewellery wise I'd probably go for a red lip and large, bright bejewelled earrings, though it's hard to tell without seeing your hair.

I don't think you can wear tights with peep toe shoes!

Heed Crispy's wise words. Peep toe shoes with tights? Never.

Maybe nude fishnets?

Toeless tights as mentioned above.

No tights in January will look very provincial.

You can wear tights with peep toes, it's one of MN's aberrations, they were invented in the 30s and always worn with tights.

Ooh thank you twinklestein (and everyone else). I've seen pictures of contrasting tights and peeptoes and one of my colleagues wears patterned tights with peeptoes for work and looks good. Just not sure if it works for a party.

I would say no to the necklaces, I think they're far too heavy and covering for the neckline. Long necklaces look a bit odd all the time with a V neck imo because then everything is accentuating where the V ends/below that point and can look a bit unbalanced. Jewellery's such a personal thing though - I wouldn't wear more than a small pendant with that particular dress, which I'm sure someone else will find very dull Grin

I know you suggested coloured tights - they could look good as long as everything else is v simple and you get a colour/shade that suits you.

Personal preference but I despise peep-toes, with or without tights.

No tights, be brave and show them legs with a touch of fake tan, so what if ya legs are cold- ( coming form a geordie girl & no coat either!!)

I think you can do tights and peep toe but needs to be contrasting so that it's clear you did it deliberately. So no to nude or sheer black.

But if you don't like it go for closed toe shoes.

I think sparkly or coloured would be fine. But that's just me. I wore a purple dress with pink tights and purple peep toes the other week so feel free to take no notice.

Either ditch the tights or change the shoes. Given the weather I' say opaque tights and closed toe shoes.
