The endless search - comfortable, flat, black shoes, with just a little bit of style?

Have I found them? I need a pair of practical but nice flat black shoes to go with both skirts (plus opaque tights) and skinny trousers. I like the idea of brogues, but they look ridiculous on me. Is Fit Flop the final stop before the retirement village?

I like these loafers but they are £££. The fitflop ballerinas aren't very comfortable, so I'd assume the loafers are the same.

I meant these, sorry.

Thanks tethersend, but they are definitely over budget. Ggirl, my Mum wears Gabor, which is hard for me to get past, but that pair is lovely. I'll see if I can find a pair locally.

I tried [http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Carvela+Loot+flat+brogue+shoes/198447776,default,pd.html these Carvela]] brogues on earlier, and they might be gorgeous enough to get over the feeling silly in brogues thing, but they only have them in sparkly grey or navy. Do sparkly grey shoes go with lots of other things?

Oh, that was a link fail.

Anyway, could I wear them with eg, this skirt and opaques? And a top, obvs.

Ggirl - those Gabor shoes you linked are great, almost a 'sporty ballerina' if you know what I mean. I would definitely wear those with a dress/skirt. The sole looks to have a decent amount of grip.

I really like the FitFlop loafers too. I've recently grown to love 'sensible' shoes for walking/commuting/running around - I save my Dune heels for bars and restaurants.

I have these http://www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/2,30/1162702740 or something like them from Office and can wear them with some skirts as well as cropped / short trousers.

The best thing about DD1 being in sixth form is they don't mind if you where ankle boots or non black shoes as long as they are fairly smart!

Every year we emptied shoe shop store rooms on the comfy black shoe hunt and she always ended up with 'granny' shoes.

Our major grip was, why oh why are so many comfy black shoes wide fit?

Surely loads of younger women need flat shoes for school, retail and waitressing jobs? Teachers are on their feet all day.

Why, oh Why is comfortable and affordable so hard to find?

These are nice and very reasonable in the sale but they only have a few sizes left. They were £100 originally.

The flat stylish black shoe is a myth!!!

I fear you may be right, looki, just like the jeans made to fit an actual human adult woman.

Thanks for the suggestions above, but unfortunately none of them are what I want/don't look odd on me.

Dragonflies, nope I'm in Ireland Smile

Goodbook, I've never seen adult geox (only the kids' light up ones!) some look nice. I'll see if I can find somewhere that stocks them.

I too swear by Gabor shoes -- you can get them from Jones or Charles Clinkard. Just the right side of frump, and sometimes damn classy. Not mumsy in any way.

strikes - I found them quite by accident about 3 years ago in a local independent shoe shop ! I buy a pair every year now :)
