Navy dress, what footwear?

Rubbish at styling but am starting a new job on Monday and have bought two new navy based dresses. One is navy and white, the other navy and teal. Intend wearing navy scarf with them but now having a panic about shoes. I need something I can walk to work in but with a bit of a heel as I'm short!

Any suggestions very gratefully received.

I love navy but I purposefully don't buy it for work stuff as trying to find appropriate shoes is a mindfuck. If you go for navy shoes it can look a bit 90's flight attendant.

These tan pointy courts would be good with navy generally, but not sure about with the dresses you've picked....what about these dolly ones? They have a strap so don't worry so much about the heel height, which isn't too bad anyway.

A wine colour, or red, something with a pattern - I wear a cream and blue dot patent flat with navy for example. Or something with texture, such a coloured suede shoe - navy goes with lots, but not usually other navy (they differ too much).

I have navy dresses (short and short sleeved) and only wear them in the summer for this shoe related issue. I wear either conker colour or coral stilettos. No tights.

Agree that navy can look a bit corporate and buying navy shoes is a challenge. I love navy though and am gradually swapping all my black for navy and grey. Much more forgiving, imo. I wear smart casual for work so have a few tunics and knitwear items which are navy based. I have three pairs of navy footwear... suede Mary Janes from clarks which have a medium heel, flat Chelsea boots (also clarks) and heeled ankle boots from M+S. Not sure of your age or budget but they are good places to find navy shoes. Also agree that tan and wine look great too. If I am wearing plain navy pieces I oten wear black shoes or boots.

If i wear a navy skirt i tend to just go for navy tights and black boots. It looks ok and stops you looking too dressy or the flight attendant thing. I do think that brown boots look better and sometimes i wear brown ankle boots instead.

I also have wine brogues from clarks and they look good with navy tights. Actually i cant remember whether i wear navy tights and black boots...its been that long. It could be navy skirt with black tights and boots.

Thank you all. I think I will look at tan boots but I like the idea of a different coloured shoe as well. I hadn't thought about mixing colours. Do you think I could go for a teal coloured shoe with the blue and teal dress?

Yellow shoes. Yellow goes with everything. Smile

I wear navy quite a lot now that I've had enough time pass since wearing it for school! At work I wear either my brown shoes or maroon shoes with my navy skirts/dresses.

Black is often seen as a no no with navy, but can work depending on the style of the shoes and outfit.

Yes indeed - teal would work well with navy.
In the summer, if I wear a navy dress then I put hot pink/cerise shoes/sandals with them.
Winter I tend to wear tan boots and add a tan belt to make it look more matchy.

Fab. Thanks for suggestions. The navy and teal dress is a Hobbs one and fits really well. Just don't want to spoil it by having crappy footwear
