Heavy rain in Scotland today and I have just found my walking shoes aren't waterproof!

What are they made of?
if leather, get some nikwax or similar, and coat.
If fabric, get some spray, and try spraying them.

Do you mean things that look like outside boots, or things that look like fashion shoes, but are good for walking distances in?

They are definitely not waterproof! Just looked online so I need something for walking in. Not fashion styles as we live fairly rural. Will take a look at Merrell.

You do need to maintain with wax or spray. Walking as in "hiking" or just day to day running around?

For rain and just generally walking around these are the best...keep feet toasty and dont leak at all. Amazing boots. Warm fleecey lining and even better with a warm insole:

Dont be put off by the fact they are rubber...they are seriously good quality boots. Shop around. I got mine in grey for £50

I live in a wet and muddy rural area and brought a similar sort of Ecco pair last year, but in leather (can't find them on this year's website); they have been very comfortable and have kept my feet dry for everyday use, although they are deeply, deeply unglamorous.

I would not wear them for wading for going for a serious hill-walk, however. For that, I'd choose Scarpa brand boots such as www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/scarpa-womens-terra-gtx-boot-42110195?id_colour=143 - but they are expensive.

The Ilse Jacobson ones look nice and seem good quality, but - this may be just a personal quibble - I hate walking far in wellingstons. I find that without laces to adjust the fit my feet sort of slop around inside boots. That's is tiring, and makes me, at least, feel less-sure footed.

With thick socks they dont actually feel like wellies. i could personally wear them all day and feel comfortable. They do come up generous though...so thick socks and an insole are best. I was up and around loch lomond area....in mud and by the side of the loch and my feet were bone dry.

Green It's probably just me - I know that many people feel perfectly happy in wellingtons and those Jacobson ones do look good.

Im not one for wellies either tbh and thought long and hard...but i hate my feet getting wet so thought i would give them a go. I was impressed...although in no way take the place of a good robust hillwalking boot.
