Skirts for first few weeks after birth (ie bump friendly!)

I'm usually a size 8-12 (depending on how much I am making an effort with exercise) but got quite big with my second dc, having second cs 12 days ago. I remember last time it taking a while for my bump to go (and bizarrely bf made me hold onto weight)!but it was summer and floaty things did the trick.

I need skirts (dresses - my usual staple - don't work due to ebf) and tops and preferably cheap ones due to hopefully only needing them a couple of months. I'm stuck wearing my one maternity skirt over and over again at the moment.

Any suggestions for type/style/specific ones that might do? Are tube skirts suitable and still around and would they work? What did you do?

I bought a bump box during my pregnancy and also wore all the staples after the birth. These include a skirt that can be under or over bump kind of stretchy pencil style and two tops one long sleeved and one strappy. when worn with the skirt they look like a dress. and obv the skirt can be worn with any top.

wore this a lot after birth and was very comfortable and flattering. Smile

Thanks flux! What is a bump box? I've had a quick google and can't tell. Gutted if I've missed out on some great pregnancy thing but not enough to buy one when my bump is hopefully not sticking around much longer! I didn't really have many maternity skirts - I've got two - or trousers having stuck to dresses but not great for bf.

I guess I should just hit the shops Primark for something cheap.

Tube skirts are great. You can wear a looser top to disguise your tummy too, and that would work for bf too.

They have lots and lots in H&M - really cheap and all different lengths and patterns. Size up, otherwise they can be quite unflattering. I also swear by M&S shaper tights, once your uterus has started to shrink and it's mostly wobble and rubbish muscle tone you're left with.

No real advice just popping in to say hi as I remember you from some pregnancy threads. You were having ELCS on 23rd and I had one on 24th. How are you getting on? I still have the wobbly tummy and am stuck in one pair of maternity leggings plus long tops/cardis/scarves. I'm a similar size to you. Hadn't considered skirts - I never know what shoes to wear. I'm planning to do a trip to H&M though for stretchy vests to wear under tops to make feeding easier.

Congratulations on your baby!

Yes get some cheap jersey tube /pencil skirts. They are comfy and will adapt to your changing shape!

I have some of the tube skirts from h&m and new look. I think the h&m ones are 9.99 and seem to be really good so far-Have washed and worn well. I found stretchy clothes to be the most comfortable thing to wear post c section the last few weeks. I think they had some jersey flared skirts in the same section in h&m also and I have previously bought tube style skirts from next and river island too.

I have been wearing leggings(am still in my maternity leggings from debenhams), tube skirt, stretchy vest tops from h&m(3.99) and bagger sweatshirt type tops over the top. Can then lift the outer top and pull down the vest for breastfeeding. Has been working really well and actually looks relatively flattering in my post baby flab.

freelance it's this pregancy capsule wardrobe box I got from one of the pregnancy clothing sites but they also used to do them in John lewis. seems they're not really around any more but saying that it was quite a lot of money when you're not going to get full use. If you're going to have a few more may be worth the investment Wink

Thanks everyone, it looks like a trip to h&m for some stretchy skirts is in order - think I will do that tomorrow.

What are you wearing on top? I have a couple of cheap vest tops in a big size that I am wearing underneath, pulling them down and pulling a top up to feed. I need more of these though as they need washing so often due to sicky baby!

It's horrible feeling fat and frumpy when you don't know when it will end. It doesn't help that Breastfeeding (I wish my phone didn't capitalise that!) makes me hungry and hold on to fat.

Hello Wednesbury, nice to chat on the other side as it were! How did it all go? We had our second little boy, as planned, on the 23rd. Didn't like my second cs but it went ok and am recovering well. Hope all good for you!

Glad it went ok. We had a boy too (already have one of each). I didn't enjoy the op either! It felt like a much bigger deal and more physical than I remembered for some reason. Felt pretty dreadful afterwards I think due to blood loss though they gave me some of it back. Well on the road to recovery now though and adore my baby boy. He will be our last so I am making the most of him.

What sort of shoes etc do people wear with tube skirts?

Ahh glad to hear it all went well, despite being a bit traumatic in terms of the whole cs. Was it your third cs too? Not sure if I am brave enough to do it all again a third time.

Yes shoes with tube skirts. I guess ankle boots might work or flats. Probably not my nice new calf length boots. I didn't make it down h&m today - hopefully tomorrow. Will post again with my haul!
