Knickers!

I am the sort of person who buys a pretty new bra from Bravissimo or Figleaves etc, forks out for one pair of the matching knickers per bra because I think I ought to but then never wears them because I am much happier in a pair of cotton bikini briefs, not your fancy shiny lacy knickers that match the fancy bra. So inevitably I buy a couple of multipacks of colourful briefs from the supermarket and wear them until all the clothes have faded and run and they look like crap. I need to resolve this. What do 'normal' women wear in terms of everyday knickers? Please tell me that I'm not the only person who doesn't face the day without a matching lingerie set?! And what do you wear instead of cheap patterned supermarket knickers which are really only one step away from kids pants. I do even have some Marvel Spiderman ones. What is wrong with me?!?!

I buy all my knicks from M&S. Packs of 5. I don't think I've ever owned a matching bra and knicker set Blush

I'm kind of like that about bras, I have several shades of t-shirt bras, and rarely deviate from those. They give me a good shape, there's no chance of nipple being seen, and they basically just do the job.

So, I tend to mix t-shirt bras with cotton undies.

I buy plain white black or nude no vpl knickers usually from M + S, all my bras are in these colours even if some are lacy or silky, then I just colour match with whatever bra I'm wearing

Jace, I think that's what I need to do. I'm fairly sure M&S sell packs of lace trimmed cotton knickers in black/white/nude and I think that's what I need to stick to. No "oooh, look at the pretty colours..." moments. I'm a 36E in bras (or a 34F depending on style) and that's based on what La Perla and Bravissimo and since going there I'm happy to spend money on decent quality well fitting supportive bras. Just not the same for kecks... Glad I'm not alone in that though!

I wear cheap BLACK supermarket knickers. High leg style usually. Nothing not to like about them, and what is the point of them matching one's bra? Although come to think of it most of my bras are black cotton ones too*.

*NB the above applies to before I was pregnant. Now I wear cheap black supermarket knickers in the nice "up to the armpits" style, four or five sizes bigger than usual. But this is hopefully a temporary state of affairs.

Just match the colours ...only buy black, white, nude.
Knickers are of the full brief variety....for comfort, but silky.
All bought in the M and S outlet, rrp £6....get them for £1.49.

Hmm.... I'm a matching sets girl. Smile

I always use buy two pairs of knickers per bra.

Nude and black only
They match in terms of colour but that is it

I like to be matching!
Day to day, I do as others do and buy plain knickers from M&S to match the lace bras I own. Black and white. I have an aversion to nude.
For occasions and going out, I have a few matching sets.

I like M&S cotton Brazilians- the ones that come in the multipacks. I agree with you, OP, the knickers you get in naice sets are always horrible and uncomfortable, especially when they involve that mesh stuff. Knickers are supposed to move with you, they've no business being stiff and scratchy.

M&S Brazilians. Comfortable and look much better than the standard supermarket 'high leg' etc.

I got a couple of 5 packs of black/white lace trimmed cotton bikini briefs in M&S today and resisted the lure of the patterned multipacks. Couldn't find much in the way of nude ones though so need to go back on a slightly less frantic day when the sales have calmed down.

Packs of knickers from John Lewis in nude or black (which matches my bra colourwise, but is cotton rather than the shiny man-made fibres ones that are sold to match bras). Used to buy M&S but found the quality deteriorated. I do find the JL ones very generous - think they may be vanity sizing - so usually go one or two sizes down.

I have never understood matching sets. Surely the most important thing about underwear is that it doesn't show through your clothes, so 9 times out of 10, that means dark knickers and a light bra or vice versa. And smooth, not lacy.

Also, who wants to wear knickers made out of the nasty shiny nylon that most fancy bras are made out of?

M&S plain black/white/nude t-shirt bras and black/white/nude no VPL shorts here.

Definitely the matching set always (I also like to match to my clothes, so navy set with navy top, grey set with grey dress etc, but I know that's just me).

Report
Storytown · 29/12/2014 19:37

Lamzig, but what do you do if you're wearing navy trousers with a white shirt?

And what do you do about VPL with tight trousers or lumpy lace under a close fitting top? These things have always confounded me.

I buy black, white and nude T-shirt bras and black, white and nude no VPL knickers in various styles or fits for everyday wear. If I can find some coloured ones that look comfy and won't show under my clothes, as in give me lines, I'll buy them.

I do have some naice sets, but they are the ones that get shoved to the back of the drawer as they are the most uncomfortable things and must have been designed by a man going.

Firedemon · 29/12/2014 19:47

Naice pants are inevitably uncomfortable/leave bits hanging out/bumpy.
I like to wear ginormous cotton boy shorts from uniqlo. They cover the entire bum cheek and go up to near my belly button.
My partner would like it if I wore matching sets.
I nearly always wear black top and bottom so I do match in terms of colour!

My husband doesn't give a flying rats arse about my undies, he's grateful for what's underneath Grin. I buy plain comfortable no vpl pants. Can anyone recommend any that aren't from m and s?

John Lewis for a basic 5 pack high leg, or bikini in a mixed colour multi pack. Amazing how bad the high street is for nylon knickers, instead of cotton. Never happens with boxers?

M&s five packs in different styles and plain colours. I usually avoid white. I have mainly black and a few nude. Have to admit to liking big old granny knickers these days, but have assortment of Brazilian, thong and maxi, lace trimmed and non vpl etc.

Do not get the sainsburys version. I brought them after bring recommended on here and they fall apart after a couple of washes.

T shirt bras here with a five pack of cotton knickers. I have loads of them. Often change my knickers three times a day...

I don't suit white or cream and wear a lot of dresses, but tend to match the top rather than the bottoms if there is a conflict.

I don't seem to have the sort of bottom that causes VPL (or the sort of clothes maybe?), but I buy the pants a size up generally so there are no bits hanging out or cutting in.

I usually buy Freya and either the shorts or briefs.

I need to buy some new knickers and want cotton so this is useful. I have previously bought from Victoria's Secret in the states but not been recently and they seem more expensive here. Might have a look in their sale if they have one.
