Ah there you are.
Sorry for the various family angst...sometimes one just gets pushed too far and it's just the push needed to put one's own little or not so little family first. Xmas isn't my festival but there are others....several years ago I took a deep breath and told the extended family that one of the Passover feasts en masse was enough for me and we would be doing the second one with friends or just the five of us. When I emerged from the fallout shelter, I found that it was ok but it took guts and the wobbly tummy feeling didn't go away for ages. I did have to the fight the feeling that " just us" was a bit sad or I was letting the kids down in some way but in the end it was quite liberating.

NU I do hope you're on the mend. What absolute rotten luck to be so poorly over Xmas. Please take it easy til you're back to full strength.

I've felt shitty today. Didn't sleep well and have really hollered at every one. Was grateful to get out for our family and DSiSs family annual theatre trip followed by festive meal in the bar. Tiger mother alter ego is fighting to get out and I'm only just keeping her suppressed. dD put on a rubbish performance ( always when the family are watching...go figure) and then stupidly I got upset ( really ) in the bar when some of the youth were playing piano, singing background music etc in between shows and DS wasn't asked to play. What on earth is wrong with me. Growl.

I went up to the West End with DH to get his family's Christmas presents. Hmm As usual, left to the last minute and throwing money at them is the only solution, as we are going up there on Tuesday. I left him up there dithering over a bag for his mother and not knowing what to get his father. We are having roast beef tonight, with Yorkshire puddings. Haven't made Yorkshires for years, and a bit nervous about how they are going to turn out. Pudding will be a self saucing chocolate and hazelnut pudding with cream that needs using up. I am horribly tired again, having felt quite perky and well rested yesterday.

Found the new thread quite quickly this time (apart from slight S&B detour to read about the woman whose dh bought her used Louboutins for Xmas Shock ). Sorry you had a slightly pants day, Rose - I hope tomorrow feels better. I got out-voted on James Bond and so we're watching John Carter which is fecking terrible.

I too am horribly tired. I am back in work this week, including NYE( my most hated night of the year- enforced optimism and jollity ) and really wish I had a/leave I could take. We usually go away for dh's birthday at the end of Jan, but dh announced that we'd probably go and see dd in Scotland this time. Aaaargh , announcing it to my extended family now means "it shall be so"
I had somewhere more 'exotic' in mind, given that we've both been flat out for monthsSad. I am sulking on the sofa, passive-aggressively trawling through the online Kuoni brochure .Angry
At the very least it will have to be The Best Bloody Hotel in Glasgow.

Checking in, crepeys. STILL doing my assignment. Would help if I didn't keep looking on MN, or Facebook. Have been aided in my efforts by eating the sloe gin truffles sent by my mystery Secret Satan!

Offsets the good work done by DP and his health-giving vegetable and bean soup for supper.

BTM, you lucky so-and-so. Envy I'm about to book a spa day at Champneys in January for DM, as a 70th birthday present, and I will of course be forced to accompany her. Wink That, and our planned weekend trip to Dublin for DH's friend's wedding at the end of the month, is what will sustain me for the grim return to the coalface in January.

Crem, you should definitely tack something "luxurious" onto the end of your trip to see DD. I do have massive sympathy with you having to work NYE.

NU, your poor thing. It is particularly depressing being ill at Christmas. Touch wood, pestilence has not ventured over the threshold of Chateau Cointreau recently.

I've just whipped up an utterly delicious Turkey Gratin which has finally seen off the remainder of the Christmas lunch leftovers. Apart from a slab of cold Christmas pud which I will force down later, with half a tub of brandy butter on top. I can now see the back of my fridge. Grin

I am officially going to bed now. As opposed to napping/reading on the bed. I can only think that this period is totally knocking me out! I shall retire with a book...

Must brave town tomorrow as my trainers are totally knackered.

Oh, MI, I do remember all that. Nice when it stops. I found it particularly alarming since I'd always been light throughout my life.

You guessed correctly re SS - twas indeed me. Grin The oils will be especially good in your perimenopausal state, I hope.

I am making turkey, ham and leek pie to see off the rest of the turkey tomorrow. DD1 has eaten the entire bowlful of advocaat cream that we had with the pudding. I suspect she is also responsible for seeing off the rest of the Bourbon butter as well...

Hi...
Open house was fab mucho wino and (in my case no )food was consumed ....

So we had Christmas Day as just the three of us and Ds loved it. Yesterday was the neighbours and today is DS's mates (need to go and buy pizza in a bit)......that's the right kind of holiday for me.

Like Cremo I am not a fan of NYE and generally see them in with a gentle 'snore' :)

Morning crepeys - and thank you for the new thread, CV.
I was correct in thinking we wouldn't manage to just have 2 drinks at the neighbours last night and then come home. I have no right to feel perfectly fine today, but I do. Why is it that sometimes you can drink a couple of small glasses of wine, have a terrible night's sleep and wake up feeling vile, whereas another time you can (ahem) drink an awful lot more than that, have a passable night and wake up feeling chipper?
Crem, I hope your dh has indeed booked the best hotel in Glasgow and there will be a second stage of the trip somewhere else.
Enjoy Bristol, BTM. What are you up to today?
It's a lovely morning here and I would like to drag the family out for a beach walk before I have to settle down to sorting out coursework and business admin, but no one else is up yet.

x-posts, BD. Glad to hear the party went well.Grin
Ds had a good time at the neighbours' last night as a bunch of his friends were there. They all spent a lot of time outside in the dark, sliding about on the icy decking and screaming. Hmm

Ds has just shuffled into the room to show me all his bruises and moan about how "everything hurts". Apparently, the slidey-icy-decking game seems like less of a good idea now. Funny, that.
That Logo game looks good, BTM. Both the dcs would love it, but I think dh would struggle.

Yes glad party was a success BD, but how could you possibly think a Spa could be hell?

It's beautiful here today - it's really Somerset (near coast). Think we may go for a walk after our massive breakfast!
