What do you buy? I've returned an xmas present that didn't fit and have a gift card but no idea what to buy.

Are they going out of business any time soon? The one near me has bugger all in it....

I went into my local House of Fraser yesterday. I barely ever go in there but my stepdaughter had been given a gift card for Christmas and House of Fraser was one of the shops she could use it in. I wanted to get her some boots (she's 5 years old) so I was directed to the children's section and I was surprised at how tiny it was! And I was then told they didn't sell children's shoes! Which confused me a bit. I tend to get lost in there so I was just wandering around aimlessly! I came across one of the concessions in there called "solo" and I managed to get a nice jumper from there for £10! As I was shopping with a 5 year old I couldn't really look around properly but they do have a perfume section, and also I noticed some nice DKNY bags. Obviously you have the advantage of everything being on sale now too! They also have BedHead by Tigi hair care products which are lovely and normally you can only buy from salons. I'm assuming your store has all of this, too, anyway! Have fun! X

Biba.

I love biba.

There's bound to be some nice biba stuff in the sale.

Having said that, it does tend towards Thr dramatic so if that isn't your style, it may not be for you.

The HoF website is good for some ideas. I like:
Biba
Mint Velvet
Pied a Terre
The housey stuff

They sell Dune, Office, Geiger, and Nine West shoes (as well as some other brands). I like Office for trendy shoes that don't cost too terribly much.

Their beauty hall is pretty OK - nothing on Selfridges but all the major lines are there.

Makeup, perfume and a candle. That'd do me nicely.

Agree shoes, handbag, makeup or clothes from biba or mint velvet. They're good for occasion dresses too

dh got £1000! of HoF vouchers from his work and it has been hard work trying to spend them as the range there is quite dire. We did get a coffee machine, a delonghi multifryer and various items of clothing and a bag (for me!) but we still have £300ish to spend.

We visited the store and werent impressed by that either.

Can you use it on the website - they have masses of stuff. I like HOF for bedlinen and house stuff, and if something in a brand is out of stock in John Lewis then Hof might have it.

Could you stock up on favourite makeup for a few months to come?

They surely have make up counters?

Dune boots
Dents gloves
Perfume

Elle McPherson underwear, something nice from the Bobbi Brown counter and depending how much was left I'd head to the shoe department. They discount quite heavily at the tail end of the sale if you're willing to wait and see what's left. I've had Kurt Geiger heels for £19 a couple of times.

Handbag or boots/shoes

HoF always reminds me of an upmarket Debenhams, in other words, a bit crap.

Thanks for the ideas. I bought a Ted Baker jacket on their website then returned it after seeing it IRL. Same with a skirt from white stuff!
I need a smart black jacket for wearing with dresses etc and have scoured their website so might hold off until they have new stuff in the next sale.

Sympathies. For some reason I got £50 of vouchers and really struggled to spend them. In the end I found a lovely dress for Christmas but god knows when I'll wear it again. I like Joules and Emma Bridgewater and bits like that but their range was very small. It's ike they try to stock as many brands as possible but can only manage a few bits of each.

The range in my local store is utter shit. I've been thinking they were bound to go under if they're all like that, I didn't realise that some were better than others. They have loads more online.

Have you managed to buy anything nice yet? I do agree though it's a very odd shop and does look as though it's going under but I think that's just the way things are displayed! Like I said before I always get lost in the one near me, everything is laid out very strangely. And for a big store like that I still can't believe they don't sell children's shoes. I was shocked at how tiny the children's section was! There wasn't anything worth buying in that section. Hope you manage to find something nice! X

We had a £200 gift card as a wedding present 20 months ago and are struggling to spend it all. Their Home section is awful. Its the only shop near me that stocks Mango clothes though, my current favourite brand.

I bought a few more smart black jackets - I am going to try them on when I pick them up in store today. Fingers crossed!

I may have spent quite a few House of Fraser vouchers (that I've been gathering for a while!!) on a very sparkly Mulberry purse today! It has now gone to the birthday fairy though!!

Strawberry, I didn't know they stocked mango! Unless that's because I've never probably looked around. Or maybe it's because we already have a small Mango store in the actual shopping centre. It sounds like different House of Frasers stock different brands! Although they all sound like the same layout, etc!

Well, 6 jackets later and we have success! I got a black jacket from Hobbs which will go with any smart dress/outfit. Very happy. Shame I had to order so many online then try them on and return them but they didn't have 4/5 of the brands or stock in store that they did online!

I got £100 voucher for my birthday and went in twice but didn't see anything I felt worth the price. In the end I got some clinique facial products and replaced my knackered old purse with a lovely new one.
