<sob> Hairdresser has dyed my hair a funny colour and I look awful

So I went to my usual hairdresser to have my highlights touched up. I usually have two or three colours, fine strands. Kind of delicate and classy.

She was very busy and persuaded me just to have a load of bright blonde highlights in there in one colour.

I now look like a Russian prostitute who has seen a ghost. It doesn't look nice at all and not only is it Christmas but I am off on holiday in a couple of days to a good hotel. At the moment I just want to wear a paper bag over my head. There is no way I am going to be able to find a hairdresser to fix this on Xmas Eve. What temporary fix can I buy in Boots or Superdrug to tone it down? Or any other ideas?

If you hair looks really brassy try Touch of Silver Provoke purple shampoo. Don't be put off, it really is purple but it takes all brassy tones out of your hair. Sorry, don't know how to link but I found it a real lifesaver. I'm just growing out my colour and using this has really helped.

I am worried I will end up looking like Mrs Slocombe at this rate. I want to cry.

Did you tell her that you hate it? Why not ask them to fix it?

The purple shampoo won't colour your hair purple, it just offsets the brassy tones. They've got it in Boots and I highly recommend. There are other brands (Fudge and Aveda) who do the same thing but at a price.

Alternatively get your hairdresser to correct it. If she made a mistake then she should correct it.

Seriously, phone them and say you are not happy. I did this once. I got awful highlights at a regis salon and they were so brassy and thick. I have olive skin and it was terrible in the daylight. I phoned them and they asked me to come in and they fixed it. If you do it yourself and it doesnt work out, you will have no come back. I would just phone tomorrow and get them to fix it for you. The hairdresser was good about it.

I put a hazelnut blonde tint from nature tint - holland and Barrett on my hair as I am growing out my very bright blonde highlights. It's semi and made it look much more natural

They are closed now for the holidays and the earliest time I could see them would be after Xmas and New Year, and my holiday.

Oh no......that is a shame. Well its either go to another hairdresser or try a fix at home. Maybe there is a hairdresser on here that can guide you. Hope you get it sorted.

Can you post a picture ? It might not be that bad.
If it is really brassy I second or third the purple shampoo, it's brilliant. I have had loads of hIr disasters with blondeyness and it's always worked for me. They do a leave in conditioner too, which is better for your hair I found the shampoo dried it out a bit.

Slightly discreet photo as it's the interweb.

You can't really see how alarming it is on the photo, and what it normally looks like, obv.

I think it looks great - definitely not the Russian prostitute who's just seen a ghost look I was hoping for (having never seen a Russian prostitute who's just seen a ghost ).

Could you try the purple shampoo if you really don't like it?

AwfulBeryl · 23/12/2014 20:36

Yes, that's it.
Although I have to say that I like your hair (and your book collection, you have loads! ) You look nothing like a Russian prostitue, not that I know what one looks like.

LOL I have a few thousand books!
I am very reassured that two people out there don't think I look like a hooker.

I didn't say you didn't look like a hooker - I said you don't look like a Russian prostitute.

Grin

I just obviously - it looks great! Embrace the blonde, and definitely get some of the purple shampoo as it keeps any brassiness at bay.

Shall we do a vote? :o

If you hate it, go with the purple shampoo and book into your hairdresser to get it fixed as soon as you get back from holiday. The good thing about going away is that nobody knows you!

Why are you in my study?

I have seen many prostitutes (of different nationalities)with bleached blonde hair - don't ask!!

Your hair does not look anything like theirs, and doesn't actually look bad at all, but that is no comfort if it is a big change from your usual and you don't like it. use the purple shampoo which negates the yellow end of the spectrum. I used to wear have purple foundation to tone out the yellow in my skin, and I didn't go round looking like Gilbert Grape honest.

yy to getting the hairdresser to correct it when they are open. Leave a message on their e-mail or phone now so they get it when they open.

So you absolutely promise I won't go blue like Mrs Slocombe if I use this special shampoo??

BTW BoffinDad reckons it doesn't look as cheap as I think it does, it's just rather unusual for me.
