SHOES! help me! *not lighthearted at all*

I need party shoes.

Problem is I am large (size 16-18) tall-ish 5'7 and very very unstylish.

I've looked at pretty sparkly party shoes and they all have heels. I can't walk in heels, let alone dance. I live in doc martens and crocs (sorry).

Also my feet are square so ballet pump shapes are difficult as I splay out all over the place and they look ugly.

My dress is black, lace overlay, knee length with sleeves. I rather like it but at this rate I'll be wearing bloody flipflops with it.

Please help me.

I can't walk in heels at all so you have my sympathy and understanding! How about a pair of slipper shoes or fabric loafers? More structure than ballet pumps and more elegant, I think. I don't know your budget but here's a pair from New Look as an example shoes

Lots of examples here loads of shoes - some beautiful but very expensive! Scroll down for the more reasonably priced ones.

Try Simplybe for shoes that come in width fittings.

Also Evans.

I have wide feet and got a great pair from New Look yesterday or you could also try Evans.

Oh lovely. I'll try that slipper shape.

it is very difficult - you don't give your shoe size but at a size 7 or over you will struggle. Also walkable heels have apparently been outlawed, it is silly ballet flats or fugly huge heels that make everyone waddle like a duck.

Shoe Zone have one or two styles that are wearable if your feet aren't too big. If you do find something, buy several pairs.

I can't walk in heels.
How about some shiny brogues?
black and gold
black glitter
silver dr marten brogues

Evans go up to a 10 in very wide fittings as do Simplybe and Marisota.

Evans have some pretty slipper pumps and the sizes come up very wide and generous. They even have a lace pair which might match!

I'd go for brogues too. I can't wear heals and that's what I'd wear

What shoe size are you? New look have some great ones in at the moment and they're down to £12 in the sale.

Love the boden ones but can't justify the £££. Will look in new look.

I'm size 7

Can you walk in heeled boots, maybe a cuban or low stacked heel?

A nice pair of wedged shoes? I love heels but I absolutely cannot walk in them, so wedges are a good (comfortable) compromise. There are some pretty ones in the shops right now

I am big and ungainly with big wide feet. I find White Stuff sizing broad and generous and they have a good mix of practical and party shoes.

Boden shoes are very narrow.

These in several colours and limited sizes. I wore the red ones on Friday night as we went out locally with the mums from school so walked there and back and knew I couldn't do it in heels and didn't want to carry a huge bag and change.

YY to wedges. White Stuff do a good line in them too!

Sorry but most of those shoes are absolutely hideous!

Report
meandjulio · 14/12/2014 15:44

Uh huh jazziest. What size and shape feet do you have? Measure your foot around the base of your toes - what size? How long are your toes?

Sounds like I have similar feet Premadonna. I usually end up doing the walk of despair between Ecco and Hotter and paying out a fortune for one of their less orthopaedic styles. I'm interested in the White Stuff recommendations above, will try that.

Ecco all right is

These did actually fit, at least

Not sure how that's relevant but I am a size 8 feet and also tall

It's relevant because if you can't get your feet into most shoes and you don't have a lot of money, you just have to wear what you can find. I used to get disciplinary chats about my shoes because I struggled so much to find any I could actually wear. At least I now have enough money to buy hideous shoes that are acceptable at work, as opposed to hideous shoes that aren't, or that once were but which are finally falling to pieces.
