what to wear with a tulle skirt

This is kind of sad but i bought my dd a pink velvet dress with a layers of dress net to wear on Christmas day and i wanted to kind of match her for fun by wearing a pink tulle skirt. I just don't know what to wear up top to make it look cool rather than looking like matching twin flumps. I was going to wear it with black tights and black blazer but need some kind top. On pinterest people wear pretty plain and simple tops with them... any opinions??!

Fabulous. I love tulle skirts.

How about a graphic tee? Colour depends on the shade of pink.
Or for a more classic look, just a plain fine knit sweater.
And a nice necklace too.

You're both going to look lovely.

Oh I love a tulle skirt.

To avoid the princess look I'd go for a plain fitted top/jumper. Cropped so it ends at the waistband of the skirt. And a big necklace.

I also love a slouchy boyfriend t-shirt tucked in to a tulle skirt. With a leather jacket so you have the contrast of textures, pretty and girly meets biker toughness.

Oh gorgeous. There are loads of tulle skirt outfit ideas on pinterest.
I saw one with a beautiful black jumper, 3/4 sleeves, deep v at the back held together at the nape of the neck with black satin bow. No idea where you would get that though
Fitted jumper or tee - you and DD will look fabulous.

Thanks guys!

Definitely agree on the necklace, i'm thinking some kind of chunky gold type affair. I actually found online (in new look of all places) a 3/4 length sleeve, cropped plain top in black or white. I'll give that a go.

I will try a graphic tee as well, i could wear it again then. I want to think i have the guts to strut around sainsburys in a tulle skirt!

I'd never heard of a tulle skirt before, but I've googled, I need one! Not sure I'd ever have anywhere to wear it though. You are going to look great!

I love this look. How about a pearl grey knit? A simple crew neck with chunky necklace would look fab.

I feel a tulle purchase coming on...

Just joking. What length is your skirt?

This look could work with a pink skirt if the knitted top was black or grey.

Sorry to hijack OP, but can these work with flats? I've just fallen in love with the idea of one, but I'm 37, carrying an extra 10kg of baby weight and I can't wear heels! Would biker boots look a bit muttony?

I dont know about muttony feesh but they might look a bit goth.

Oh, I want a tulle skirt too! I accidentally stumbled on some on Amazon recently and have been hankering for one ever since! I'd wear it with a fitted sweater or long sleeved scoop neck tee. A wrap top could work too.
Feesh (sorry can't do bold!) I think ballet flats or pointed flats would look amazing with one of these.

Grey jumper; either fitted or really slouchy and oversized for a very quirky casual look. I have a tulle-type skirt (not full-on ballerina style, more of a pencil, but in tulle type material) that I love wearing with a slouchy jumper. It stops me looking like Grayson Perry going to a birthday party I hope.

This thread has made me buy a red tulle skirt.

Going to go for this slightly gothic ballerina look over xmas.

I also have this top which I think will look good with it.

Thanks OP Grin

I think a slash or boat neck top with 3/4 length sleeves...something that will channel Dior's 1950's New Look proportions and give you that Audrey Hepburn/Grace Kelly/Hitchcock heroine vibe.

www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/t-shirts/organic-cotton-t-shirt-c269189p2125022.html Only 9.99 and organic cotton too- maybe in black or white, tucked in.

I would say a breton version but it's maybe been a touch ubiquitous the last couple of years.

Maybe a version with sheer sleeves
www.frenchconnection.com/product/Woman+Collections+Tops+Evening/764ZR/Dotty+Ditton+Top.htm I think this would warrant some ladylike heels to pull it together.

Shamelessly marking plc for ideas.

I have a full floaty red skirt, satin not tulle which I want to wear at Christmas but I haven't seen anything to go with it.

I have a black one and usually wear with black fitted jumper and black tights and winklepickers

Haha! That tutu. Phwoar.

Awesome suggestions.

I actually made mine. It's a pretty standard shade of tutu-esque pink (so as to match dd's delightful number)... candyfloss?!? Slightly paler though.

I'm going to make a few different colours soon though cause i love wearing it so much.

Can I ask where you got your DD's dress from? It sounds exactly what I'm looking for for my DD's!

Mothercare of all places. I also saw a hello kitty outfit in m&s which had a pink tulle skirt and matching tights but it was for older girls. My dd is still a baby.

I would suggest either a boat neck top, or, as a more fashionable alternative, go for a sweatshirt. I work in a very well thought of high street store, and at the minute a sweatshirt is always what we would put with a very feminine skirt like that. Grey with a slogan is the look of the season (on the high street).

With all these varying suggestions it's just making me think it's actually a pretty versatile style of skirt really.

Agreed nanny she looks incredible.
