Is there any way to work out your own HOC style type?

I know what I like and what suits me for day to day but I am hopeless at dressing for occasions or anything out of the ordinary. I'd love to know what style type I am to help guide me and save any more expensive mistakes but not sure I can stretch to the cost of a style day. Is there a way of working it out yourself?

Having done the style day myself I can honestly say I would not have been able to fully diagnose my style personality. I knew what I liked and what suited me but not WHY which was the important bit. It helped me figure out why some items in my wardrobe were just never going to work for me. Not only has it saved me money but also time as I know what to look for now.

I do have one of the extreme types though. Maybe it's easier for some of the other types.

I've found this link somewhat useful in the past, though it doesn't align completely with the HoC system.

Also, this quiz is fun.

But really I think you have to just think a lot about what you enjoy wearing and why, make lists and notes etc.

I am doing the style day in January so I'll be able to scratch the itch once and for all though

I come out as a dramatic creative on the quiz but am not tall or angular enough according to body type. I suspect I'm some sort of confused gamin!

The quiz didn't really work for me. I came out as Classic Dramatic but I know i'm a romantic natural. I didn't choose a single romantic answer as I don't like lace or girliness much. Apparently my style type is quite unusual/rare though so maybe that's why.

I came out as dramatic creative which I think roughly translates as dramatic gamine which is what I am.

I tend to come out as natural or gamine in these quizzes which makes sense except that I am very curvy which doesn't fit with the usual gamine shape - I'm much more hourglass than boyish.

mowglik I think it's based on a number of things including body shape, proportions, lifestyle and your taste. If I was more confident about what suited me I think I'd find shopping much easier rather than choosing say a fancy evening dress and wondering why I feel like a child in dressing up clothes!

Thanks - That sounds like something I need - I'm forever buying clothes and then they just sit in the wardrobe because they don't really go with anything. Would love to do a full colour and style analysis to help me make sense of my confused wardrobe

My style day taught me so much. Not least that a body confidence can overrule a body shape of that makes sense.

As soon as I was "diagnosed" and we went through the sorts of things I should be wearing it suddenly made sense why certain items in my wardrobe just never seem to work.

The HOC methods matches up types with panto characters (sort of) and that's what's made things easier for me. My "character" is principal boy / pirate / highwayman which is me to a T. So when I'm out and about shopping I just ask myself whether Adam Ant would wear it

Can I ask a question to those who've had their style day done? I wear a lot if different styles of clothes and I love mixing it up. One thing I know doesn't suit me is collared shirts buttoned up to the next with a jumper over it, looks awful so I guess I'm not gamine! Other than that I wear smart and casual, skirts and trousers, skinny and wide leg, pencil skirts and skater dresses, girly and lacy and also plain. Some may disagree of course but I think I'm getting away with it, I can't see a lot that doesn't suit me. Am I delusional?! Would I get anything out of the style day or would it just stop me wearing what I like? I did the quiz but found it quite hard as I wear everything. The two sections I don't wear are the classic ones with chinos, ballet flats, Breton tops, designer clothes. I hate white stuff, etc, love asos.

The thing with the style day is it makes you see more clearly the things that, while they may not look particularly bad, don't look particularly good. A good example for me is necklines - I am busty so theoretically a scoop neck should be good for me, but actually, it's a little bit meh and a tight crew or v neck much better. Tiny little things like that can make the biggest difference. I pretty much knew my style type, so I wasn't far off but the little tweaks I learnt made all the difference.

Cambridge, I am Gamine and my measurements are 34-24.5-35, so not exactly boyish! They do look at your body shape and tailor recommendations based on that, but character is the most important thing, I think.

Does anyone know if you can do the hoc style day without doing the colours day first? I'm very confident I know my colours but could definitely benefit from some style advice

They do it based on your body geometry. So they take a series of measurements, get you to wear right fitting clothing (I.e. Leggings) to look at your shape and then make suggestions as to styles based on that. The actual style personality is actually much more done on your character, then they look at the styles and suggest what will work based on style personality and body geometry.

Nick no need to do your colours first. Most people do but I probably get maybe one in ten clients who haven't done their colours.
