Miss Dior perfume

Maybe this has been asked before but: I can't seem to find my favourite perfume which is the original/vintage miss Dior. I bought a bottle from boots only to discover it's the correct bottle (or the bottle I'm used to) but it's not miss Dior original that's in it. I took it back and asked me to order the original. I collected it today to find that the same thing has happened again. Does anyone know what bottle I should be looking for?

Hm I always forget which I like between the eau de toilette and le parfum, which bottle does it come in? Is it the rectangle with a bow on the lid? As that's the Miss Dior but like I say it comes in two versions.

I know what you mean. Miss Dior has been replaced with the one that smells of strawberries and patchouli. The original Miss Dior has another name. Can I remember it? Nope. But I'm sure I can Google and find out...

Further explained here. Chypres face many threats as the EU allergy regulations affect their key ingredient and basenote, oakmoss (any perfume that features the triad bergamote-labdanum-oakmoss is a chypre). If you find some Original and still like it, buy a back-up bottle.

The one I liked always came in the old fashioned bottle not the one with the bow but although the bottle is the same the perfume is not. It's now much lighter coloured a sort of pale yellow instead of a dark gold colour. I can't take it back to boots again as I've taken off the cellophane wrapping. I've read on a perfume forum that cherie is now known as miss Dior. Why? ? Thanks for your input I'll keep looking and if I find it I'll be sure to buy more than one. Thanks all

Oakmoss in high concentration is illegal now (it contains a substance that triggers contact dermatitis in about 2% of people). This means it's difficult to make classic chypres, perfumers try to imitate restricted ingredients with other fragrance chemicals with varying results. Chypres are also perhaps trickier for novices to appreciate and many associate them with the past. When perfumes go out of fashion, they go go extinct. Miss Dior has survived for a long time but who knows for how much longer. I would look for vintage bottles on eBay.

Thanks frugal, years ago I loved Gloria perfume & it vanished- maybe for the same reasons you describe.

I am a Miss Dior fan, have been for years. Bought myself a big bottle in Debenhams a few months ago. It is always in the airport duty free outlets but you do have to check it is the original one in the white packaging.

I liked the cacharel Gloria and I did see it once a long time ago on e bay but it was way too ££! (Says she who has just ordered yet another bottle of miss Dior in the hope it's the one I want this time!) this time the perfume looks the 'right' colour but it's in the bottle with the bow. Fingers crossed. I have images of dh opening bedroom cupboard to an avalanche of miss Dior bottles. "Wtf?!"

Can I ask a question about oakmoss? Whenever I wear Paris, Rive Gauche or Champagne I get a rash. I just assumed it was something about YSL perfumes but do these all contain oakmoss? Not worn Rive Gauche since my 20s.

Ooh I don't remember that bottle. I've probably been using it since mid 90's.

It could be oakmoss, but another common skin irritant is Lyral. Lyral is a lily / cyclamen aromachemical that has 'white noise' qualities that you need in floral bouquets. It has been present almost in just about any cosmetic product. (When I smell it I think soap/ shampoo / bubble bath). Oakmoss has also been just about anywhere and sometimes perfumers put in low doses, but it has a more distinctive smell. Think mossy oak bark or a wet florest floor. Perfumers use a palette of hundreds of aromachemicals and naturals contain hundreds of molecules, so difficult to say what you are reacting to.
