Getting married, want a simple yet sexy dress....

Jocastafantastica · 26/11/2014 21:30

I am 42 and hourglass/curvy 12 to 14, I am having a simple registry office family only do, then a seperate party next day.
I'm thinking a simple yet fitted dress like Christina Hendricks or nigella style, knee length pencil or nipped in waist and full skirt, not low cut, and elbow length sleeves (it will be October)..any suggestions for designer/website? Smile

The Coast Jocasta dress is amazing for your shape figure and comes in a beautiful champagne colour. You'll need To look on eBay I think.

Ooh yes hacked that looks the very thing. Have you had anything from this site, is the quality nice? I am not sure what my hair colour will be yet...I am going from boring blonde to bright copper next week (gulp)

Not tried anything from there yet but I am attending a wedding next summer so have had the site saved a good while in preparation.

Copper sounds fab - would you consider a dark/bottle green dress? My red headed friend often remarks "Green is a friend of the Gingers" Grin

I'm a ginger and I look great in emerald green and the right shade of red.

Look at honeypieboutique.co.UK they will make you a dress to fit and alter their styles if say you prefer sleeves etc. Colour of your choosing etc. They are gorgeous and are making my wedding dress, 50's style fitted at top and waist and flared bottom half then a contrasting petticoat.

Not expensive either.

They sell some ready made or they make to fit your measurements.

I think the right shade of green would be lovely, not too 'forestry commission' dark though (I ordered one in this colour from asos once and looked like the park ranger), or too lime either. I don't like red at all. Part of me fancies a cream/champagne dress and I like the look of the Biba one, but it would need to be knee length (I have hideous knees) Blush

Congratulations 5, mine is a secret too (so far....I've nearly let it slip already).
I will have a proper look at at the honey pie website when I'm not on my phone, that sounds just the thing, thanks. What colour is your dress going to be btw?

Check out the Ghost website they do slinky bridal wear

The ghost dresses are beautiful but I don't suit long and flowy, I look more opera singer than willowy! Also don't want backless as I have an old tattoo I don't like and don't want to show...ooh my picky considerations list gets longer

I am going for ivory, I wasn't going as dp and i have been together nearly 17 yrs and have the 5 madthings! But I have found the most amazing pair of turquoise ruby shoo Shoes so ivory dress but petticoat to match the shoes. I was going to just buy a dress, not a 'wedding' dress but in 50's style as it suits my figure but then found that website and figured what the hell you only get married once! Plus they are £150 so not expensive at all for tailor made. The petticoat will be extra, you can buy them ready made even off Amazon but I wanted it to match my shoes and thought what the hell!

I have told my sister and two closest friends but that is it, I have invites Sat waiting to be written so once I do that and post them family will know! Also small registry office wedding.

Congrats to you as well, it is exciting! Grin

I like this style of dress, but not in blue. Perhaps a nice green?I have a dress from the pretty company who i know do lots of these style dresses, it is a lovely style but the material is very starchy and I find you spend the whole evening wrestling it back down.

Congratulations, I'm getting married next October too!

I was looking at something from here - they have the shape you're looking for maybe and they do them in Champagne. Plus they're made to measure for a fairly reasonable price.

Or what about finding a local dress maker and having something made? That's the route I'm going down and it's not going to cost me anymore than your average bridal shop dress (and would be cheaper if I hadn't fallen in love with some bloody expensive lace...).
