Anyone have to alter the waist of their trousers?

I keep buying trousers that fit perfectly on my bum and thighs but are too big on the waist. I sewed elastic into one pair and they look fine on as long as the waistband is covered.
Does anyone else do the same? Is there an alternative?
I've got another pair now that only have a gap at the back. Just wondering if it's worth sewing again.

The best way to get the perfect fit is to remove the waistband & either increase the width of any waist darts (at the back) or take in the seat (from crotch to top of trouser). Then sew waistbandback into place (you may need to shorten this too).

I have this problem but as I'm not very handy with a needle I have just stopped buying trousers and spend most of my time in dresses.
I keep thinking there must be a brand which is made to fit those of use with a big difference in waist/hip measurements
Watching and hoping someone can tell us where to find such a thing!

Nothing ever fits me on the waist if it fits on the hips. I have a huge difference in size between the two so pretty much just wear skirts or dresses as trousers/jeans are just not cut to fit me. Doesn't matter how big or small I am either, same problem

I usually have to put a couple of darts in the back of trousers, I am too lazy to remove the waistband though.

Same as Uri - I often have to put a couple of darts in, either side of the centre back.

Strange, because I have quite a straight up-and-down figure; my waist isn't proportionally small, but I always have a gaping waistband.

I sometimes have to do this. Not always. Like most of you I'm to lazy to remove the waist band. In fact, I'm even lazier and get DH to do it - he's better with the sewing machine than me!

Oddly, high waisted styles (eg. Top Shop Joni jeans) are less likely to need this treatment.
