I'm the same height as you, and I'd wear heels!
Sod it. You're tall, embrace it!

I understand where you are coming from. I am taller than most of my friends, and while I am happy with my height and like to wear dressy shoes with a dress, I really dislike being left out of the conversation because I am too tall to hear what everyone else is saying. I had this happen to me in a really noisy bar once when I was towering over everyone else and couldn't hear a word they were saying.

Even in flats you are going to be much taller than her anyway, so you might as well enjoy your height and stick some heels on.

That said, I'm tall too and I know how uncomfortable I can feel when I'm just out with shorter people.

5"8 too. My husband it 5"7.5. I still wear heels. Be tall and proud!

Kitten heels can look very dressy, but shouldn't add too much height?

kitten heels may be the thing, also seen some "mary jane " type shoes with a little curved heel that might look ok. I usually do wear heels if on a night out. But my friend always says she feels short and dumpy next to me, she has had a hard time recently and has put a substantial amount of weight on. I don't want her feeling down. she is such a dear person to me.

I'm 5'11" and kitten heels tend to be my friend. Doesn't matter how amazing the dress or how dressy my shoes are, if they are flats I feel and look like I haven't made an effort.

I'm 5'10" and have never ever worn heels, I feel like a twat in them.

I'm 5ft like your friend. EVERYBODY is taller... heels or no heels ;)
Wear what shoes you want.
You should embrace your height as your friend should embrace her petiteness!

I am also 5" and I feel like a dumpling next to my taller friends. Having said that I think you should wear what you think looks good with your dress and what you're comfortable in.

Pointy flats are in this season. Boden has an amazing embellished pair, they've been getting a lot of press. Quite expensive though, you could find decent ones for less.

At six feet I feel like a transvestite in heels and a dress. Its having to bend down all the time which is a pain

Does your friend give a shit (if so it's lovely that you care) or are you worried about feeling tall (you shouldn't)?

I'm the same height as your friend. DP is 6' and one of my (female) best friends at school was 5' 11". I don't worry about height. Everyone is taller than me (just about) so I try to look fab for my own height and build same as anyone else. Think about it this way - you wouldn't hide your slimness for a bigger mate, so why worry about height?

If on the other hand I've got the wrong end of the stick entirely and you're worried about noise / hearing each other or your mate is self conscious, kitten heels can be lovely, but IMO best with slim calves or trousers as they are unforgiving. What's your budget?

I wear a mid heel for posh work stuff (about 2 inches) that carries over to dressy. Admittedly I am a shoe fiend, so umm, they're a bit posh.
