...any hints on speeding up the process? I've taken the plunge and bought a new pair but it's been a long time since I wore the boots and I'd forgotten the wearing in stage!

I know it'll be worth it, they look lovely (and soooo purple!).

Wear two pairs of socks, one thick, one thin (each foot).
Stand on the boots, particularly the back where it meets your heel.
Good luck, I need a new pair but can't face breaking them in!

Hit the bit that goes over your achilles tendons with a hammer to soften if its boots. If its shoes hit the top of the back of the shoes. I had some new ones last year, shoes with metal studs on the toes & heels, love them but so uncomfortable to start with. A friend suggested weeing in them to soften, apparently this works very well but i'd never heard of it & didn't wantt to rust my studs so didn't attempt it.

I steamed mine over the kettle, put them on and stretched the back down by pushing my leg back, iykwim. I moisturised the leather afterwards, so the heat/steam wouldn't damage the leather, and they've been fine.

Double layer running socks will protect your feet during breaking in

Saddle soap. You sit and rub it in the heel and other thick areas and it softens the leather.
