Long curly frizzy hair...

Saw a feature on this morning this week about how to blow dry your own hair, including a lady with hair like mine, very long, curly, frizzy hair. They made it look lovely and the main advice was to do it once a week and not wash it more than once a week.

Well that's all very well but what if like me you go to the gym two or three times a week, sweat a lot and have to wash it?

I end up diffusing it and shoving it up. Would love to walk around with long glossy blow dried locks...Sad

Why not embrace your curls and try Curly Girl?

Yes but its supposed to fall into place if you just dry it roughly.

Have you tried any natural oil treatments to smooth your hair?

My hair is similar to yours I had a Keratin treatment and didn't like it my hair looked flat and lacked volume and had a greasy texture to it.

I have now stopped blow drying got layers added to my hair and now do Curly Girl. My hair is in really good condition but I guess if you don't want to lose length it is probably not an option.

I'm a bit late to the party but have you tried to use only silicone free shampoo and conditioners OP? The Body Shop do a great Rainforest range and sometimes the Pound Shop has some. I have bra strap length, curly hair. It used to be a frizzy mess and I couldn't do anything with it. I went silicone free about 5 months ago and it's great now. I can actually wear my hair down and curly instead of scraping it up.

Going silicone free is party of 'The Curly Girl' method about how to treat curly hair and get the best out of your natural shape. It also includes 'plopping' (wrapping hair in a T shirt turban after washing) and using different products to style it.

I've been trying co-washing for a couple of months now and I think it's working. Mine is shoulder length and wavy / frizzy.

Basically, instead of washing with shampoo (detergent) and then conditioning, you wash with an astringent conditioner, leave it on for a bit and wash out. Loreal do an Everpure (green metallic tube) and Home Bargains sell a minty Alberto Balsam conditioner. I only use shampoo once a week now, but it's washed with conditioner every day. Like you I go to the gym and it has to be washed daily.

I tried normal conditioner but without the tea tree / mint or rosemary it didn't leave it feeling clean.

I only wash mine once a week or less. I exercise several times a week, but the sweat and grease mske it better! I condition it in the shower, but not wash it.
