Friday turnaround in London - help!

So Friday I have a dilemma, arrive back in King's Cross from a work meeting up north, then have to get changed and ready for a black tie do in evening. Does anyone know where, a. I can get changed that isn't a train station toilet, and b. where I could maybe get a blow dry between King's Cross and Baker Street?

You haven't said how long you've got but one of these wouldn't take long by tube

Wow - that is gonna be some task.
Can you get ready at the Metropolitan bar toilets at Baker Street.
They are big and nice and have big mirrors. No-one mans them and you don't need to go near any employees before you get to them.
You could get a glass a of wine and get ready with that as well to get you warmed up!

In true MN style, I'd say the john lewis Oxford Street loos. The ones just off the curtain department are usually v v quiet - I've got changed there before.
And a blow dry at the hershesons bar in top shop.

Or, book a blow dry in a place that will let you get changed?

What about visiting a gym in the area? You could use the showers in the changing rooms and even go in the sauna for a bit if you have time.

Gielly Green salon is just off Baker Street. If you speak to them in advance, I'm sure they could sort out a room to get changed in if you are having a blow dry.

I've known someone who went into toilets of posh hotel to change...

but if it were me and I had time - gym and spa (just to chill) or posh department store toilets - I'd say Liberty but they were rubbish last time I went, Selfridges may be better and other dept stores.

Great ideas thanks. Will give Hershesons a call and maybe plan around whether I can get an appointment. Isnt there one in Selfridges too?

There's a Virgin Active Classic at both Barbican and Bond Street. They have fab facilities for getting ready - towels, dressing gowns, makeup tables, hair dryers, GHD straighteners etc. I'm pretty sure a non-member visit is £20.

I'd sort of go with rubybleu's idea only because you can chill out and do your own hair.

It's no use to you but Landmark London Spa is lovely but really you need a hotel with a hair salon if anything. That's on that big road (forget name) and Marylebone Station is behind it so near Baker Street.

Hilton London Metropole has a hair salon - they'll do a blow dry if you ask for it... in W2, it's in Paddington (I think I've stayed there) so very near Baker Street.

The Aveda Institute on High Holborn might be worth a try? They have hair salon/spa and cafe!
