December Vogue is rammed with her as befits a truly great model (regardless of what you think of her past actions, she is an amazing model) and total style babe.

Just needed to say that really- its good to see British Vogue back on form at is glitzy and superficial best :)

Oh it is wonderful indulgence although I am curious to see the un-retouched cover .

I really miss the US Vogue features along the lines of 'I went Christmas shopping and this is what I brought for my DH...sister...mother...colleague' followed by pages of photos of super expensive and weird trinkets and where they got them from. They don't seem to do those features any more.

Photoshop is indeed a wonderful thing. I have a friend who was a make up artist and he met her a few times said she was lovely and v. down to earth. Who cares what she does in her private life she has never claimed to be a role model.

Kate is not a role model. Some people sadly get a little bit confused about the differences between role model and clothes model.

I really detest the way women are expected to be fucking role models in a way men are not.

Yep, that's all it takes to be self employed at seventeen, negotiate agents, managers, photographers, casting directors, travel the world and live far from home in a job that demands 18 hour days. Oh and earn millions of pounds at top level and work just as hard at the bottom too. To be truly successful you need to be fit. It takes stamina to work a photo shoot and keep those crazy hours. No model just 'stands there'- have you ever sat in on one?

Frozen Oh I wish :). A close friend is a MAJOR fashion photographer, know her and says she works bloody hard, nobody has a bad word to say about her and is ultra loyal to her friends.

I get so pissed off with ignorant comments about models though. People have no idea how hard work it is. Most models are NOT at super level and do not live on a PJ.

so she has to stand up for long hours. Many jobs involve that. Not hard when you are a kid, or even at 40. Harder later on.

Regardless of age you can't actually 'work' 18 hours and do anything that involves thinking, no-one can. Time at work is not the same as productivity, to think so is manager-babble. No-one is worth millions of pounds whatever they do. Photos can be taken in much less time, if it takes all that time even allowing for hours of slapping-up, someone is inefficient.

I do get that the fugly silly shoes must take some skill. I can't walk in heels.

spoiling the fun with facts:
there is a silly walk - you see it on the perfume ads. The duck-waddle with one foot right in front of the other.
they do pout - no model smiles in a photo, the slapped-arse face is standard. (I'm sure she can smile!)
they do starve. Several have dropped dead from it. Moss has been quoted 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'. Actually you can eat good food and not be overweight, but you can't eat properly and have the stick-limbs of the models.

I think she's great at her job and she definitely has a unique look that is her own rather than contrived.

She seems to attract far more criticism than other models which I think is unfair. Whatever she has done in the past, she is not the only high earning person with a dodgy private life.

As for the question over how hard models work: it is bloody hard work. I work in fashion and it is unusual to get that "ultimate" picture in a short time at the level of editorial perfection that Vogue and other glossies demand, even with the likes of Testino behind the camera. You can't have a fat day, a feeling crap day, a "not in the mood, frankly" day. You are scrutinised, poked, prodded and criticised all as part of your job. Yes, the money is ridiculous but then there are examples of unfair pay scales all over society. Doesn't make it right but that's capitalism & consumerism for you.

As for the weight issue: the designers themselves need to take a lot of flack for that. The designers choose which models they want to represent them. Until they start voting with their feet and steadfastly refusing to use underweight, unhealthy models then the system will continue as it is. Having said that, I disagree that you need to starve yourself to maintain a model figure. It isn't necessary to be waif-thin to be a successful model. More athletic figures also make the cut (Giselle, Naomi Campbell, Lara Stone, Doutzen Kroes...).

I'm waiting to open my copy of Vogue until I have done the school run and have a cup of tea in hand. However, I did watch the video interview which I thought frankly was more Vague than Vogue. Shame as I do think she comes across as a laugh and more down to earth than you would think. That also seems genuine, unlike Naomi Campbell who always seems to be desperately try-hard and fake self-depracating (sp?).

What stereotyped claptrap you spout. As you say, you have no experience. There are far more healthy living models than dead ones and you very conveniently discounted the myriad other aspects of the job that I listed to focus on standing- actually they move around more to interpret the brief of the client, the photographer and stylist team. That's not as easy as it sounds. Listen to a good, top model and she's likely an expert on the last 700 years of fashion and cultural history and how to reference whatever aspect of it you like in a photo.There's a reason KM has been the muse of many eminent artists of this time- from Quinn, Gormley and Freud to Sam Taylor Johnson, Cecily Brown and Richard Prince. It ain't just because she looks good in a frock. Good models collaborate, interpret and create themselves. They aren't just empty vessels for the client to fill with their vision.

As for being a role model we've already had that discussion on many a thread. She never aspired to be one. If you are dumb enough to look to the famous for guidance in your own life or allow your children to take that view, then you deserve what you get quite frankly. She'd be the first to admit she made a mistake which is why she is now happily married and with a daughter who, from what I have heard, is very well brought up and a delight.
