I'm on the lookout for a warm coat and have just seen this one

I'm trying to go for a better quality than my usual one season coats.

Would you say it is worth the £150?

Will it look nice with a scarf? I was thinking of an oversized tartan scarf.

£150 seems like an awful lot of money to spend on a Next coat!

I do think it looks nice though & would look fab with a tartan scarf.

I agree that £150 is rather on the expensive side for Next. If you zoom in on the fabric, it is a fleecy type finish rather than a smooth wool and I'm not impressed with the wool/polyester ratio either.

It is a lovely shaped coat though. Topshop have quite a few in this style (under "boyfriend coats"). It is a different colour but this one is lovely. I have seen it in the store and was very tempted myself...think DH would divorce me if I buy any more coats though grin

Oh and the fleece finish issue: I tried a coat with the same finish earlier this year and found it incredibly irritating.

Just goes to show how much I know about fabrics, I thought 66% wool was quite high.

I like the topshop one but it's a little too 'hairy' for me, they make me look a lot bigger.

I did see one coat on next that I thought looked nice and it was £750! shock

No. I think you'll get better for the price.

Fcukfifa Thu 06-Nov-14 10:21:45

I also like the idea it will be here tomorrow without me having to leave the house, and someone will pick it back up if I don't like it
<lazy bastard>

Also like this one

The Topshop one isn't hairy or particularly fluffy, tbh. I think they have exaggerated the pile with photoshop because that was what attracted me to it - that I wouldn't resemble an oversized teddybear in it!

Anyway, I think you could get the same fabric for a lot less, if you are happy with that. Try New Look, Oasis, H&M and Warehouse.

Ujjayi Thu 06-Nov-14 10:28:34

Zara one is lovely.

Fcukfifa Thu 06-Nov-14 10:30:42

I shall carry on the search, what usually happens though is that I look for the 'right' winter coat for so long I end up without one hmm

nilbyname Thu 06-Nov-14 10:30:48

I have a grey coat like that from
The gap and its a wool and cashmere blend and was less money than that next one.

TheRealMaryMillington Thu 06-Nov-14 10:31:34

I love the Zara one, but its a lot of polyester - good price though - and classic in cut

The next one looks Ok but I think its expensive for Next quality, for that fabric, and for a short coat like that.

If you really want an investment coat for a few seasons I'd be tempted to spend £200 rather than £150 and go for as much % wool as you can get.

TSSDNCOP Thu 06-Nov-14 10:37:26

The shape is very on trend. What about this one from Marks you can buy a scarf with the 40 quid difference. Also the buttons don't fall off apparently. USP Chez TSS grin

BelindaAllWorkedOut Thu 06-Nov-14 14:56:06

No. I would buy a £150 coat from Massimo Dutti, Cos, & Other Stories, French Connection, Hobbs and (some only) Zara. But I wouldn't pay £150 for a wool blend coat from Next.

ZaraW Thu 06-Nov-14 15:12:50

It's not worth it. This Izzy Lane coat is a bargain, ethical and made in the UK. I have a couple and they are excellent quality.

ZaraW Thu 06-Nov-14 15:14:15

I have this one

Greengardenpixie Thu 06-Nov-14 15:23:07

I love this one...its beautiful on the next website:

noddyholder Thu 06-Nov-14 15:25:14

No different to my £20 one from primark Same textured surface etc The zara one is nicer the one I have is a one year wonder as is the next one

BlueEyedWonder Thu 06-Nov-14 15:31:44

I second the Topshop one that ujjayi linked. I tried it on in store. Really good quality, warm and a great colour. I'm a teeny tiny 5ft and if they'd done it in their petite range I would've snapped it up.
I tried on several coats in Next also. The quality is a bit meh IMO. Therefore I would be careful if spending that kind of money there.

I shall be dragging myself off to topshop tomorrow then and let you know how I get on, thank you all for the advice smile
