Ever managed to tone up after being wobbly for years?

Hi

So I've got wobbly arms, thighs, a little back fat and a shapeless backside. This is due to carrying some baby weight that I have t managed to shift naturally.

So I need to take action. Has anyone who didn't really enjoy the gym managed to tone up and lose that extra stone that's ruining their life!

If yes what was your fitness plan? How often, how long?

Would running help me tone?

Heeellllp!

30 day shred DVD.
ÂŁ5 on Amazon. Best ÂŁ5 ever spent.
Went down 2 dress sizes due to toning up.
Need to take my own advice and get back on wagon though.....
Numerous Jillian Michaels threads on here in the Exercise topic to help support you!

I managed to lose all my baby weight and more doing Atkins, and toned up a lot, esp the tum by doing yoga and Pilates. I take classes at the gym but you could do these at home too..
Been cheating loads lately and put a fair few pounds back on, back on the wagon from tomorrow!

How often did you have to do the DVD for and how long?

Yup Pilates and gym. You need to put in the work though

Every day for a month, as per programme, with the odd Sat or Sun off.
It's only 30 min so usually get up early, before kids, and do first thing.
Used 5 kg weights from quite early on, so arms and upper body got toned, bualso liked the reduced arse size and leg shape due to the various lunge exercises Grin.
Got other JM DVDs as time went on to minimise boredom of doing same workout.
Did not change diet much apart from cutting out alcohol.

Could an unfit wobbly person manage the shred or do you need to be reasonably strong/fit to start with? I am neither!

Ok thanks for that I'm away to google. But every day is a little drastic for me!

It was Zumba and aqua aerobics classes that worked for me, plus dog walking. It's because I enjoy doing each of them so much I make sure I do at least 2 classes a week, and walk the dogs 5 days out of 7 (thankfully DSs & DH are on hand the other 2). So, basically, I'd say find a physical activity you enjoy doing and go for it. Have fun!

Me. I was the classic geeky, non-sporty kid at school and always hated any physical activity. All changed when I had the DCs. Running is great. I started off unable to manage more than a couple of minutes without feeling like I was dying and now I do 6-8 miles. I also second the Shred though, it's nice to have some muscle definition and it doesn't take long. I have never lost any actual weight doing it but my body looked so much better.

I've had success with Jillian Michaels & Tracey Anderson dvds.

However, I recently started following Tone It Up which I love & am seeing great results already. A new exercise schedule is posted each week with youtube videos to follow along with. The fact that they mix it up means that I don't get bored. Workouts range from 10 mins to an hour.

I didn't lose any weight till I gave up the wine then 5kgs came off.

I don't do Dvds or classes used to do endless gym classes and pushed myself to the limit in them but after so long the results stagnated. So I looked at body transformations and relised the magic happened in the weight room. I have dropped many dress sizes and am more than just toned. I eat very frequent meals and do heavy weight training I am NOT BIG and bulky as many believe weight training does that to you. I found a coach at a body builders gym and the rest is history taught from scratch I now look how I used to pre children if not better (I have had 4)Its hard work and once you get there you have to keep at it to maintain it. Because I want it I make the time there is no quick fix it takes time effort but you have got to want it for YOU.

You need to lose weight.

3 years ago I lost 2 stone which took me to just under my pre pregnancy weight.
I gave up snacking and had 3 sensible meals a day. I went back to running which I used to do at school. I now run several times a week and take part in park runs, 10k and half marathon events.
I have also done 30 day shred. I also like kettlercise.
I look and feel better than ever.

Yes losing weight is key. I lost weight by giving up sugar but, like blodynmawr, I need to take my own advice and get back on the wagon with that one!

Some of the Jillian Michaels videos are posted on you tube. My favourite is shred it with weights (but again I need to actually do it...!)

Don't necessarily need to lose weight. I've hovered between 7.5 and 8 stone all my life but am lazy and slothlike and have wobbly upper arms, a bit of a muffin top and a saggy arse. I need to tone up, definitely don't want to lose any weight.

Body pump and body combat classes have absolutely transformed my legs, bum and arms - cellulite disappeared, I kid you not!

Belly still a mess though

For me , 30 day shred is great, plus I do 3 sometimes 4 classes a week.
I used to do nothing and gradually put more and more weight on until I was nearly 11 stone which was big for me as only 5 ft 3.
Began doing ' hips, bums, tums' class in Jan this year which was hard at first, I did one a week plus Shred plus walked for an hour a day.
Also used My Fitness Pal app to record everything, sticking to 1200 calories a day.
I have lost over 2 stones,my initial goal was half a stone!
I have found I love the buzz that exercise gives me so I joined the gym .
I don't use equipment just do mix of classes,HIIT, bums and tums, dance based on Strictly training,Kettlercise.
I have now got toned legs instead of thunder thighs, bumlift, slim but defined arms, etc.
cannot believe the change!

I think I'm going to get a personal trainer to devise a workout for me that I can follow.

Also I think I will go to some classes.

It all seems so much! I'm not so bothered about losing weight as I am about toning up. My figure looks ok from afar but it's just got lots of wobbly bits!

Jemster - yes, start on level 1 and be as gentle as you like with yourself. You will be amazed how quickly you improve and move to level 2 etc.
I was completely it of shape when I started - had not done any proper regular exercise for years Blush.

Get a trainer - toned me up, lost weight and also sorted out my rubbish posture so I no longer get any neck pains... Amazing return on my investment!
