Wore my brand new Jimmy Choo's to a wedding for a total of six hours. When I took them off, I noticed that about 1.5cms from the tip of the sole had literally just peeled off. Took them back to the boutique in Edinburgh where I had bought them and they refused to refund or exchange, citing shoes were

Wore my brand new Jimmy Choo's to a wedding for a total of six hours. When I took them off, I noticed that about 1.5cmbs from the tip of one sole had literally just peeled off. Took them back to the boutique in Edinburgh where I had bought them and they refused to refund or exchange, saying that damage was due to 'wear and tear'. Seems to me that Jimmy Choo's are not fit for purpose (as required by the sale of goods act) and I would NEVER buy another pair!!

Ive never had any issue with my Choos but if I did I would take them back to the shop I bought them.

You need to complain to the shop, complain to JChoo too as this shop are representing their products.

There was a daily mail article about this a few years ago and they recommended you get them resoled BEFORE you even wear them which seems ridiculous! It should cost about £10 or so to resole them though it will change th dainty look of them

Apparently the SA in the article were shocked that the shoes had been used out and about..

I've only worn mine from car to door but then I couldn't handle walking about much in mine

I found LK Bennett to be the same, I was just about to buy a pair and the lady serving me said 'now don't forget to get them resoled straight away' ... I decided against buying them. Ridiculous.

Well the shop offered to replace the soles and I was told the shoes would be returned 'as new'. So I agreed to this. But unfortunately the shoes came back with half sole repairs. I complained to Jimmy Choo but they said they had done the repair as a 'gesture of goodwill' and wouldn't budge, although they admitted it was a mistake that the shop had offered to replace the soles, as they don't in fact return shoes to the factory for this. All I can do now is tell others about my experience.

I think it's a real shame that the staff at the boutique didn't return them. I used to work at Harvey Nichols and although it was a while ago now, we'd have exchanged them for a new pair if it was evident they'd only been worn once.

They're leather soled so will be porous and soak up any moisture which is why if you get caught in the rain in them you need to be careful as the soles can get wrecked. That's applicable to any leather soled shoe though. I know some people prefer to have a rubber half sole put on their luxury shoes to avoid this. But it was never recommended by HN or Jimmy Choo themselves.

I always get a rubber sole put on my luxury shoes. The leather does not stand up to outside wear.

Jimmy Choos, Manolos, Louboutins etc should always be soled before wearing........

So they didn't ignore you altogether, they agreed to re-sole? Which they have done? I think that's a reasonable compromise to be honest.

It is well known these shoes do not have hardy soles and many people re-sole before wearing, that's the design of the shoe.

And it is only the front section that needs changing, the middle bit that doesn't touch the ground doesn't get re-soled, a half sole is appropriate.

Hang on - we're talking about shoes here, not ornaments. If you bought a pair of shoes from Clarks, you wouldn't expect to have to get them re-soled straight away, so why should we accept this for luxury fashion shoes, which have cost up to ten times as much?

I agree with allie. Why on earth should you have to pay to get something brand new improved before you use it?? It's madness!

Why don't Jimmy choo make the soles wearable in the first place?

Knowing this I will never buy designer shoes! not that I could afford to anyway

It is crazy but as Chewbecca said, it's the design. If you want pretty looking delicate shoes (that it could be argued are akin to ornaments!) then that means a leather sole and it's the nature of the leather sole that means they won't wear well. I guess they are not designed for running around in, like Clarks - they are taxi shoes - but I don't think 6 hours at a wedding is excessive and it sounds like your Choos were extra soft maybe?

However thanks to this thread I'm about to have a rubber sole put on a pair of once-worn Aquazzuras ready for Christmas, so thanks everyone

I think I read in that DM article when it was published that they're designed to be worn from home, into a cab / limo, then onto a (red?) carpeted floor. When I was next in Selfridges I had a look and right enough, when you examine them it's fairly obvious that they aren't going to stand up to much wear on outdoor or even hard surfaces. That little nugget was stored away in the 'if I ever buy pricey shoes' department of my memory.

The repair they've performed looks fine imo; it looks odder now it's just been done but once they've been worn it won't be as obvious. I'd be chalking it up to experience, have a more durable sole put on by a cobbler and enjoy them.
