I couldnt get a 16 over my bust today

Trills Sat 01-Nov-14 17:29:42

H&M sizing is often quite odd. I'd never trust to order anything from them online.

Catsmamma Sat 01-Nov-14 17:29:44

it was a size 14 and not an age 14??

I only ask as dd (stick thin) had a puffy jacket from there which had a 14 label in it, but no way is it a size14

Creatureofthenight Sat 01-Nov-14 17:29:48

You have made the common mistake of thinking that H &M sizes bear any resemblance to normal sizes! I'm a 14 and often can't get into their 16 shirts, dresses, jackets if it's fitted in any way.

Pancakeflipper Sat 01-Nov-14 17:35:53

Their sizing is all over the shop. Last year I bought a cardi from them in a size that fitted nicely. This year bought similar cardi and had go 2 sizes down... And I have not decreased in the last 12 months.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel Sat 01-Nov-14 17:39:32

The sizing is bizarre in there. I've had stuff smaller than my usual size and stuff larger. Weird.

NoelleHawthorne Sat 01-Nov-14 17:41:02

yes i have bought normal sized tops in there. I did have a slightly elevatory bra on, bit it was TERRIBLE

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Sat 01-Nov-14 17:57:00

I think their jackets do come up small tbh. I need a 14 in there and am a 12, 10 or even an 8 elsewhere.

NoelleHawthorne Sat 01-Nov-14 18:03:11

i fancied this

NormHonal Sat 01-Nov-14 18:05:19

Their sizing is very fucked up odd indeed.

After having DC2 I was no more than a 12/14 size in jeans, couldn't even get on their size 20 jeans and left the store in tears, never to return!

LaurieFairyCake Sat 01-Nov-14 18:06:29

I bought 2 pairs of their uber stretch jeggings in size 20 last week online

I'm a 16/18 in every other shop. I can't get them past my knees hmm

PrincessOfChina Sat 01-Nov-14 18:07:09

Agree. Their sizing is weird. Maternity is very generous though - I'm easily fitting 12's/Medium at the moment even though I'm a good 14 usually.

Chopsypie Sat 01-Nov-14 18:07:09

Their sizing is dreadful. I'm usually a 16ish but have a size 14 skirt which is quite loose and a pair of trousers in size 22 which I can just about fasten.

surprise Sat 01-Nov-14 18:28:32

I'm a size 16 and have just ordered one of their jackets in a size 20! I tried on the 16 and it wouldn't even meet in the middle, so I'm guessing an 18 won't even be big enough.

You're quite right, OP. Very, very small size jackets.

lurkingaround Sat 01-Nov-14 19:28:47

Crazy sizes. I have a skirt in a 16 from H&M. (About a 12 IRL, excepting Halloween and its load is shite). I don't look at the size label anymore. In fact it should be a law.

TheOriginalWinkly Sat 01-Nov-14 19:33:29

I was in h&m once, a size 10 top fitted, I couldn't even close size 16 trousers and O had a whole starbucks worth of muffins in my muffin top when I put on the 18. My hips are not 5 sizes bigger than my top half. H&M pluck sizes out of --their arses

HolyQuadrityDrinkFeckArseGirls Sat 01-Nov-14 19:49:23

I was a size 14 last year. In ah&M I found nice tent like trousers that fit. At a size 8 hmm

FruitBasedDrinkForALady Sat 01-Nov-14 20:02:51

I have a lovely size 10 chiffony top from H&M that goes very well with my size 18 blazer...

TheHouoooooondsBitch Sat 01-Nov-14 20:06:32

H and M have completely mental sizes, I've bought XS tops that are loose on me (12/14) and tried on size 16 jeans and dresses that were nowhere where near doing up.

VenusRising Sat 01-Nov-14 20:07:08

The blazers are tiny, and for people with stick arms. It's the cut.

I have muscles and sometimes can't get my biceps into a blazer.
I have massive norkage also, 32GG so, forget about closing one even if I can get my arms in.

If I do manage to close one its massive on my shoulders and waist, so I look like I'm wearing a box.

Knitwear is your friend.

Think it depends on the range from there. We go in and stick to say the same range, everything fits. Start mixing up the ranges and end up with size 8 bottoms and size 20 tops, on a person that is a size 8, although usually 22/24 as she likes her tops a bit baggy. I just seem to fit into medium. Never dared trying anything else.

Gem124 Sat 01-Nov-14 21:30:16

Glad it's not just me!! Size 10/12 and a size 16 jacket was so tight I couldn't get my arms in, tried a few and all the same xx

GERTgert06 Sun 02-Nov-14 08:22:26

Thank goodness! I thought it was just me. Most of my stuff is 8-10, but have had trouble finding a blazer type jacket in there that will meet in the middle, let alone fasten.

Whippet81 Sun 02-Nov-14 09:51:55

See I had the opposite with some of the maternity stuff - M were big but I had to have an 18 in some of the trousers - I am a 10/12. Sizes are crazy in there.

I don't think H&M shirts and jackets acknowledge the existence of boobs.
