Has anyone ditched face powder?

I use Maybelline bb cream as a moisturiser/foundation, with powder on top. At the weekends when slobbing at home I skip the powder and am thinking my skin actually looks better. Does anyone else skip powder? I have pretty clear skin, but a few wrinkles and open pores, and an annoyingly shiny nose (which powder doesn't even cover for long).

In all of my 45 years i have never put powder on my face. Or foundation or whatever it is. I don't really get why people do this unless their skin is really blotchy or something

Good for you, LEMming! I find the BB cream (which is basically tinted moisturiser) makes my face a bit more matt. Using just moisturiser makes me look like an oil slick after an hour.

I only ever use face powder when I'm going out at night but during the day its never actually occurred to me to put it on, I always think I look more natural without it too.

Instead of powder (as i get a shiny nose too) I sometimes either use a mattifier - ysl have one but cant remember the name, or i use the photoshop primer on the bits i know will go shiny, seems to help loads

I haven't used powder since the 80s I also use BB cream or a light foundation and thats it. Don't like the chalky look of powder even the expensive stuff

I have never worn powder either! I dont use anything except for moisturiser and have never regularly worn foundation. I have olay moisturiser with a bit of max factor foundation tint in it..just to cover any redness but as for powder..never.

Me! Very recently. Started wearing the Garnier BB cream instead of foundation and just use oil blotting sheets if I'm feeling a bit greasy. My skin looks better than it has in years

I use a light amount of powder on my nose and chin otherwise it looks horribly oily. If I don't use powder, how can I stop the oiliness? Suggestions welcome.

Powder was all the rage when I was young. Always hated it, and although bought an expensive brand (at the insistence of my mother) hardly ever used it. Made me feel all claggy and horrible.

Interestingly, bought some foundation at Duty Free recently, and the sales lady was really giving the hard sell on powder, no matter how many times I told her "I do not want it, thank you, I DO NOT LIKE IT".

Is it making a comeback? Shame

Don't use powder.

Tried that MAC mineral stuff but felt I looked a bit like Miss Haversham. I don't think with today's foundations etc you should need powder too though.

I don't use powder or foundation, just moisturiser and if I'm out and about then a smidge of primer.

I use powder on my eyelids and have skipped powder everywhere else. oil blotting sheets on greasy nose or forehead. for some reason I have oily eyelids though and have to use powder on them or my eye liner/mascara will run and eye shadow will crease.

Selks, I use primer to control shine. The only one I've found that can be worn with no makeup - as in it blends right in and looks completely natural is L'Oreal Studio Secrets. Pricey for the pot but I get 2/3months out of it.

I use powder because bb cream or tinted moisturiser leaves my face looking a bit greasy. Powder gives a nice finish, I find. This summer I've been using a light bronzing powder, in winter I'll be using laura mercier mineral powder.

I use primer on my oily bits of my face. Wear foundation over then. Find powder makes my face look dry, settles in the lines etc.

New leaf expat u can get eye primers now too. Should help keep the eye make up in place for you.

A few of my friends started using it again recently in homage to the 80s I think at first glance they look quite perfect but up close without exception it looks cakey and sits in lines

I use a bit of Chanel Les Beiges over my vitalumiere. Not heavy or chalky but I do need something to finish off with.

Wow, I'm surprised at how many of you don't use powder, I assumed it was the norm! Am going to try primer on my shiny nose.

I'm in my 50s, and yes, I know most people would expect those of us at that age to be looking a bit caked-up, with powder settling into wrinkles and stuff, but nope - not in this corner!

Smashbox Primer is a good one.

I use powder! But I'm 21 with quite oily skin so really it just combats that's. If I had drier skin I wouldn't use powder. A small amount applied carefully to my T zone looks great and not "cakey" at all.

I'm envious of people who don't wear foundation. I wouldn't wear it but I have such spotty, patchy skin that it really does help.

My boyfriend has annoyingly perfect skin with barely visible pores. Grr.

Powder never looks caked up or settles into wrinkles on me. Actually I find it more natural looking if used sparingly than some of the BB creams that are recommended; those often look much more 'caked' to my eyes (but I'm sure that's down to the application).

Powder has always made my face look dry, and now I'm older (55) it seems to stick to stray facial hairs and makes pores look worse. I'm not one for expensive make-up, but I find that NYC foundation mousse (from Superdrug, of all places!) on top of their primer leaves a lovely smooth matte finish which disguises blemishes and blends well. It's only £3.99, too!

I find it depends a bit what moisturiser I'm using at any given time, the one I have got at the moment does leave me a bit shiny even with tinted moisturiser over the top, so I use tiny bit of translucent loose powder on top. If I'm going without tinted moisturiser / foundation I use Benefit Dr Feelgood for mattifying.

I avoid powder on my nose though, it does look dusty there.
