Kn-October! The continuing NO Spend/ Low spend clothes challenge!!

Laska42 · 01/10/2014 21:33

Welcome to the continuing NO Spend/ Low Spend clothes challenge , where we pledge once more to KNOCK our clothes spending habits on the head! .

A huge Well Done to all who have stayed with us (especially those who have been here since August!!) . We have all made a huge difference in our clothes spending habits , learning what we need and what we dont..

We've had some brilliant support here, we have all learnt what our triggers are and we all spent less.

So, a definite success; and now it’s time to sign up and pledge to get a grip in Kn-October!!

Can we continue? .. Lets face it with the lovely weather , lots of us have had we havent even contimplated our Autumn wardrobes yet , so resisting the new seasons offerings has been easier ...

So this month we are going to get out our last year's stuff and really contemplate what we do and dont need .. Maybe we can even MAKE ££s instead of spending them by ebaying some of those purchases that sat in outr wardrobes unworn last Autumn/ winter ..

SO lets get at it again. Remember WE DONT have to buy just because THEY want us to get their 'Life style' looks

SIGN UP BELOW ..

And a big welcome to old and new S&B obsessed MNers - who just can’t stop buying it all - to join us in our quest to get a grip.

......................................................................................
So, what’s it all about?

We all LOVE new clothes, but are short on the willpower to resist, and quite frankly its getting too much ..

We have piles of clothes and shoes we've even forgotten we have, (some with the labels’ still onblush) .

But we want to get back into control and wear the lovely things we have and stop being a slave to every new catalogue, website and blog.

We want to resist the sales and offers and we want our friends and neighbours to know us better than the postmen and the local couriers !

We know they want us to buy into their new lifestyle looks , but we are stronger than them.

-Throw out your catalogues as they arrive!
-Unsubscribe to online shops!
-And let’s get creative and stay stylish without spending even more £££s and without adding to the piles of unused stuff we already have...

So here we go again...

-Some Rules-
-Either commit to No Spend or to a set budget.
-Exceptions to No Spend are tights, socks ,underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinely worn out.

Lets help each other kick this habit!

We know its hard and we will have to continue to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in again?

Hello! I'm going for low spend this month,(£50) as now need new bras and knicks (just how did I manage to put that blue thing in with my white underwear?) Angry ,

I did won the ebay auction for the Biba dress though! £40 .. it was this one £149 new and it looks unworn (thats my Christmas party dress sorted )
.
So yes, I havent managed No spend as I'd hoped I would since ive started this , but quite honestly ive bought so much less.. have gone down from about £200 a month to around £50 , and have also sold quite a bit on ebay.. so im feeling pretty good all told,

There is nothing I need for Autumn , the onslaught of catalogues seems to have slowed (though I did just get my Monsoon reward voucher .. ill try and keep that for the next sale ) So its just a case of keeping out of shops if I can ..

I have some nice winter stuff to sell on Ebay, including some almost new Dune boots from last year, which are just uncomfortable on me ..so hopefully ill get enough to make back the cost of the Biba dress..

Who else is here?

I'm in :) new to this, but I've been inspired by last month's thread.

Aiming for a low spend on essentials only. I'm pregnant (due in December) and I think I am approaching the point where I'm going to need longer tops or maybe some maternity tops.

My weakness is lotions, potions and make up... I caught myself lusting after a benefit eyeshadow kit the other day but I resisted!

In the interest of full disclosure, I bought a pair of £90 boots today BUT I had a voucher and I'd saved birthday money from last month and used husbands student discount so they only cost me £11 in real money.

I still haven't bought anything. Since the beginning of August I have bought some hair bands and a hand cream from tk maxx. So I've spent less than £5 on myself.

Oh I just remembered I also bought a clarins toner, which was £20... So still under £25 in two months.

I'm in too!

September was pretty good for me. Had the odd wobble, but returned everything (with the exception of the make up I bought on my birthday, and everyone said I was allowed and it didn't count).

Committing to no spend. I think October will be OK. November will be the challenge as we are going to Florida... Land of the Outlet Mall.....

Me!
I've still got some birthday money left, but spent a voucher on some jeans I wanted. I'm going to try and eke the rest of it out for the year as I really don't need a thing.
Plus I sold an item on ebay and got £10 for that.

I'd like to try this too, maybe set a low spend, rather than a no spend? Returned to work at end of May, then went on holiday end of June, so from end of July to end of September, I went a bit crazy buying things for myself. Every time I log on to MN, I see something I like, and whenever I open my email inbox there are tonnes of emails from stores offering discounts, so I need to get this under control. I've already bought a fair bit of AW stuff - jumpers, scarves etc, and it was my birthday a few weeks ago and I got a lovely coat. The only thing I need are winter boots, so will stick to looking for just these.
I was thinking I might try lifting a set amount of cash from the ATM, as a way of limiting what I spend initially. Has anyone tried this and if so, did it work? TIA Smile

I took September off the no spend challenge and bought new jeans and long sleeved tops which should see me through.

Between now and the end of the year, I shall allow myself to buy:
A vest top/cami to wear under sheer blouses
A pair of black ankle boots (although finding a pair to fit my wide feet is proving akin to finding the Holy Grail)
A pair of navy gloves
A thin knit jumper (only if we get a cold winter)

I'm sure I'll get distracted by other pretties but will try and stick to just these.

Signing in. Too many clothes in the wardrobe and I need to use up what I've got before buying more.

I'm in but might do a small budget rather than no spend - seeing as that worked so well for me last time .

Have planned to do project 333 until Christmas to get me focussed on the clothes I do have.

I really need to do this - Been seduced by too many sales recently and brought stuff I don't need more of. There are a couple of bits I do need (winter boots) so once I've got those I'm going to attempt to stop spending any more. We are moving house shortly and I had stopped ordering things but a glitch in the chain saw me go on an online shopping frenzy and my nice tidy bedroom is once again a stock room for online shopping! I will make sure once I send it all back I don't order any more. Also attempting stoptober for booze and fags so October could be a real purge month for me!

Oooo I'm definitely in. We've just moved into our new house & will need to start paying a mortgage soon so less money for clothes and need to be sensible with the rest. I'm going to buy a dress for a wedding I've got coming up with the money I'll get back from some returns I've just made, but after that it's no-spend for me all the way!

I am in until the 25th October! I will be on hols the last week in Turkey and may succumb! I do not need any more holiday clothes as if I only lost weight I'd be able to have new tankinis every day for a week from my stash!

I'm in, just buying a winter coat this month. Keeping out of the clothes shops, if I don't go in then I won't spot that top / scarf that tempts me! Much nicer to walk the dog, meet friends, read a book, have family time instead of buying stuff :)

I'm in. I've been terrible for months.

my weakness is lotions and potions and cheapie clothes - I want to do low spend rather than no spend and when I do buy invest in good quality items rather than tonnes of crap

Plus have lots of clothes unworn so I want to do clothes planning and getting outfits on hangers to see what I have and actually wear it

oh I also have a problem with wedges I have lots unworn Wink

this will be interesting especially as I'm using mumsnet to inspire me to do better grooming and personal care so I'm not going to include any HG mumsnet products I might need to get

bi oth bras are going back.. as dont fit , but having said that now weve had a sudden turn of weather , im back to black! (ooh all Amy Winehouse) and have plenty .. Maybe i can get away with not buying a white one until the spring then (i have one left that didnt get dyed blue)

But I did order one pair of new M&S black leggings today as found one of my (2) old ones had a hole in , have avoided all physical shops so far this month.

Ooooh can i join in? My weakness is on line shopping (i live in a very small town with very few decent shops). I ordered far too much in September, sent a fair percentage of it back, but I've just received my credit card statement and it's shameful.

So my challenge between now and Christmas is no more on line shopping, I will limit myself to cash purchases (ie no credit card spending) in our local shops, so it will be low spending at H&M and Dorothy Perkins.

PS - can I add that I don't actually feel good about myself when my shopping starts getting out of hand, it's better to be restrained.

Petal I feel the same.. I now keep buying things and sending or taking them back.. Yesterday (almost by reflex i think ) I bought a jacket TKmaxx (a jacket ! I have too many jackets anyway !! ) and took it back even before i'd left town.. I actually felt sick aftre i'd leftthe shop . its like i was on autopilot ....(and even more embarrased takin git back.. so perhaps the shame will keep me out of there for a while)

However . i have so far actually bought and kept one pair of leggings and a h&M grey basic dress to wwear under my work tunic tops .

But i do have a pair of blue boots and plus a 2nd hand cardi coming from ebay). The boots are a replacement for another pair im ebaying as they have a back zip which rubs , The cardi? Hmmm....Blush

I know the sick feeling too!

I've managed to keep off Ebay (almost bought something but held back). I'm selling stuff and find this more exciting than watching and bidding, so I obsessively watch my seller's page instead of my watching page!

Petal , Online shopping is the worst, I moved to my semi-rural location from Brighton , and our local town High St is complete rubbish .. However , then I discovered online (and MN S&B!) a fatal combination..
