Fat woman in bikini

I think Im going to get one.

Years ago, I went on holiday by myself to Corfu. I was slim but didn't think it. Anyway, the beach was full of German women, big women. All in bikinis.

Did they care that they had belly fat? Did they care their boobs were skimming their knees? Did they fuck?

Did they have fun? Oh yes.

Did I have fun in my sports cut one piece? Nope.

So I plan to be a German woman this summer. Yes I'm fat (size 16) but I plan to wear a two piece.

Anyone have any ideas? I've seen a big knicker one in Next.

You certainly can say what you want. Several times apparently.

OP that's great. As a fellow slightly fat size 16 I just wouldn't so I applaud you. There are some great looking high waisted/fifties style bikinis around that look awesome on bigger women.

Oh sorry I am 5 ft 4. I have fabulous legs and my boobs are pretty great. I have a very large middle part.

This is nice:

But I'd like more generous bottoms.

I can say what I please. The buskers dog. It's a public forum.

Enjoy your bikini but to be on the safe side pack a raincoat, a fleece, waterproof trousers and parka wink . Can you tell I am familiar with your holiday destination?

I would be huge at a size 16.

I feel self conscious in a bikini at a gym bunny size 12.

I'd love to be a 'let it all hang out' type.

I got this one from Bravissimo, it's my first bikini in years, all my wobbly bits are now out and proud!

"Personally I don't like bikini's for many reasons- mainly they're not practical"

I don't think one piece swimsuits are more practical than a bikini.

I had a similar don't-give-a-fuck moment last summer when I went to Florida. It was liberating. There were 100s of other women on the beach all with their various wobbly bits, all shapes and sizes, similarly not giving a fuck what they looked like.

I also have a quite high c section scar which causes an over hang at about the height of that lovely blue one.

But I might take a closer look when I'm there for bras.

I'm not after practical. I'm after fun.

Im a size 16-18. I weigh 15st. Im obese.

op, go you!!!

LucyStafford Sun 06-Jul-14 21:39:39

Do it.

Swimming costumes are too hot.

sleepdodger Sun 06-Jul-14 21:39:57

I feel v fat as a 10; it's all to do with how you look/ feel vs where you know you could be if you stopped eating junk...
And at 5'4 and just shy of 9.5st I'm hefty hmm

naicesex Sun 06-Jul-14 21:41:33

I'm personally loving the passive-aggressive 'x'

Good for you OP!

Branleuse Sun 06-Jul-14 21:43:04

i love my fatkini. I think i look hot

ColdCottage Sun 06-Jul-14 21:45:52

16 doesn't always mean fat and is the national average.
Work it and have fun!

Changebagsandgladrags Sun 06-Jul-14 21:47:08

I've always felt fat, but now am fat. I look back on photos where I felt fat and I look so bloody slim.

So OK I'm fat now, I'll look as fat in a swim suit as a bikini. A swim suit doesn't possess amazing slimming powers and I refuse to wear a holder in type thing.

BuggersMuddle Sun 06-Jul-14 21:47:38

Go for it. I'm overweight OP but as I'm fairly in proportion, I actually thing I look nicer in a bikini. Plus so much easier for going to the loo etc.

Panache do some nice ones. I also got a lovely one from Figleaves own brand recently that's very flattering (I'm big of boob, so I like a fairly structured top part for comfort).

GiniCooper Sun 06-Jul-14 21:51:36

You'll be the only one in a bikini, don't do it.

And you'll be blue too...

Clare, CLARE. Bikini and Clare in the same sentence has me tickled!

Branleuse Sun 06-Jul-14 21:51:47

i got my bikini from here

i got the red polka dot high waisted bikini

Its lined, so holds wobbly bits in place

Awks Sun 06-Jul-14 21:54:57

River Tam that bikini is it true to size? Did you buy the same top as your bra size? its lovely and I'm going to order it too.

AnnabelleDarling Sun 06-Jul-14 21:57:54

If you were going to the Med, I'd say go for it, but in Clare you are risking hypothermia!

LEMmingaround Sun 06-Jul-14 21:58:48

Im a size 18/20 I don't own a bikini as I prefer to stay covered on the beach to protect from the sun but I will quite happily go with bra and knickers if I fancy a swim and don't have a costume on.

Sleepyfergus Sun 06-Jul-14 21:58:50

I spent £50 on a swimsuit from Boden for my hols this year. Ridiculous amount but just couldn't find anything I liked or suited me and this was my first year not wearing a bikini as an feeling fat and old(!)

Anyway, it was amazing. Looked lovely on, held me in round the tum, supported my boobs and was stylishly cut and very flattering. It was also very comfy. So worth it in my experience.

They also sell 2 pieces if you're keen on a bikini. Size up 1 size though, they're cut on the wee side.

lettertoherms Sun 06-Jul-14 21:59:21

I bought a bikini last week. I hate my stomach. I don't know if I'm ready to wear it without a cover-up. But I bought it, which I have never done, it's the only bikini I've owned.

It's part of my new philosophy of not giving a fuck and getting what I want out of life instead.

Good job OP.
