It's the dreaded holiday shop - Shorts (aka the work of the devil!!!)

I can't avoid it much longer - I'm going to have to go on the dreaded hunt for shorts again soon :-(

I hate shopping for shorts, I am a pear shape, I have a huge arse and thighs and I hate shorts but our holiday is coming up soon and I'm going to have to bite the bullet and but some. So can anyone recommend where they get theirs from please?

Why do you have to buy shorts when you hate them so? Seriously, just don't bother!

i liek banana republic for shorts, or Gap,
Next though, I think are better for wider arses. think of where you get trousers from and get from there

Peacocks have these in, and they are really flattering. Everything seems to be selling out fast, I ordered them online.

linen type

I have to buy shorts because they are practical on holiday. I can't chase around with the kids in a skirt flashing my bum off and with the heat I'd get sweaty between my legs. It will be too hot for trousers too.

Hmmm not sure on linen stuff to be honest. I like to get a couple of wears out of holiday stuff so I can pack light but linen stuff usually creases badly or goes baggy after they've been worn.

well rigid denim or cotton will be uncomfy and not flattering imo

I was on hols recently and am similarly pear shaped. I have Gap shorts, can't think what they're called, Sunshine or something. They're fine. I also got these and these from Zara. I really like them, v flattering over my hips and thighs, and yet easy to wear for shorts. Didn't crease badly at all either considering they're viscose. They come up big (I know! Zara coming up big!) so you may need to size down.
These are the Gap shorts. Pas mal at all.

I'm curvy but with a biggish bum and thighs (some would call them fine though).

I was dreading this very thing last year - went into Gap got their distressed denim shorts see below:-

www.gap.co.uk/browse/product.do?cid=57385&vid=1&pid=000941369000

and a style similar to these:-

I was thinking oh gawd what am I thinking but a woman in the fitting room (not Gap employee) saw me in the denims and told me they looked good. I also got the thumbs up from my boyfriend at the time, friends etc. they also look much better with a light/medium tan. sometimes what you think looks bad actually looks better in real life.

I was dreading looking and then went into my cupboard, found an ancient pair of slightly bootcut jeans, that i would never wear again, and cut them off just below the knee to be turned up into shorts. I now have shorts and I did not have to go shopping for them. Grin

J Crew do nice block colour chino shorts. Variety of lengths. The 7 inch ones are long enough without being mumsy.

I won't wear shorts. I just don't suit them. I suit jeans, but not shorts.

A skirt is much cooler and looks better (on me, at least).

I look bloody dreadful I shorts but suit a short but slightly full skirt. I found some nice print looser shorts in H&M which have a similar effect - only £12.99 - would link but on phone. They had a tropical print, several Black and cream chevron styles and a yellow floral (which I bought).

I never wear shorts, the shortiest I will go is cropped jeans that are below the knee. I'm also pear-shaped.

I wear dresses loads though in summer and I have small children, really don't see the problem. A full or floaty dress is so much cooler, flatteringly covers the offending thigh and knee area (mine not yours I mean!) and you can get long-length knickers (or just cut off some old leggings) to avoid chafing.

Another great dress option is a jersey maxi, perfect for hot weather, flattering and no danger of flashing your pants. I have several of these and run after the kids in them all the time. here

OP can I just attempt to reassure you. I am pair shaped with, in my mind, a huge arse and thighs. I have spent YEARS screwing about what I look like in shorts. Seriously, years. This year I thought 'fuck it', and wore them. There result was not as bad as I thought. Ok, I'm not going to put Elle McP out of a job but no-one vomited at the sight of me.
