I am going to a wedding in Laguna Beach- dress me!

BIL marrying trust fund bitch from hell

5'3. Big boobs, bit of a tummy after twins last year but mostly a size 10.

Dress code is "Summer cocktail" - no stilettos as it is in a back garden

I intend to look a billion dollars. What shall I wear?

Under £200. Have a plethora of shoes and bags so just for dress and a cover up (wedding is at 5pm in may so may be cool in the pm)

That's a tough one. Are you thinking wedge shoes or flat sandals? I think I'd do a floaty maxi dress with flat metallic sandals. If its a label fest I'd be tempted to have something made by a dressmaker so labels aren't an issue, no one will have the same and the fit is perfect.

Personally I couldn't do a short dress without a stiletto. The shoes are a real stumbling block.

Not sure about LK Bennett. A bit too long in the body for me - also am 34 and have a Zoe whatdoyacallher fringe so not sure it's the right vibe.

Plain jumpsuit, ideally spaghetti straps or halterneck, with some chunky bracelets, matching big necklace and earrings. There's lots of nice unique things at craft shows or on etsy. Metallic sandals.

I wouldn't normally recommend a jumpsuit for a wedding but you're limited in flats.

Take 2 shawls, one silk and one cashmere. You can decide on the day.

I second a jumpsuit - a really plain but expensive looking one. John Lewis have some and then some fierce undercrackers to smooth your silhouette...Spanx should do it

third the jumpsuit or a maxi dress definitely flats not wedges would be tempted to buy plain dress/jumpsuit and blow out on the sandals. Luguna beach is my favorite you will have a brilliant time!!

I was going to suggest Castaner wedges but they tend to make outfits look more relaxed, being espadrilles, and I wasn't sure they would be smart enough. In gold they would look more dressy, so that could work.

I'm not sure about maxi dresses at 5'3" they can be quite swamping, and personally I wouldn't want to wear flats.

Not a maxi. I am short as a short thing and they make me look dumpy. I might consider a jumpsuit but can't do strapless (too much boob)

Twinkle stein - might have to break out the wedges. I think it's going to be an uber cool, SoCal vibe, rather than a formal wedding.

This is too under budget but something similar might work with your wedges, a light tan and an appropriate bra (which could require a whole other thread).

I'm not sure about California (where they dress down most of the time) but in other parts of the states they don't dress up (ie new dress matching hat) as much as we do, in fact it's just something like jacket and trousers or summer dress with shawl. So L Bennet could be over the top.

But if it is v rich wedding that could be different.

However if she is British and just marrying in Calif that doesn't apply.

No she is very much Californian. BIL is English. I am Irish.

I love the warehouse dress but it would require industrial scaffolding to restrain the breasts!

The "grass" in California won't be soggy like here. I reckon you'd get away with heels. I've never been to a wedding in the US that isn't evening dress glam.

Been told no heels though. It's the garden of a family friend so I'd prefer not to offend/ruin the lawn plus I hate wibbling all over the grass after 2 glasses of champers. So I think it'll be wedges.

from my extensive research, I think colour blocking is the way forward, rather than print. Looks more together, I think.

Although I do like this dress www.reiss.com/womens/dresses/tia/paintstroke/ the fabric is lovely and slinky in real life.
