What causes those big, red, flattish spots that don't come to a head?

I never used to get spots but am getting them on my cheeks and chin lately, so just wondering if it's blocked pores due to inadequate cleansing or something else. My skins quite sensitive, not oily, used to be fine. Haven't changed diet or anything.

Actually they're like the spots I get when I'm stressed, except I'm not stressed!

How old are you (if you don't mind me asking). It could be rosacea.

Dunno but watching with interest as I get them sometimes. They're really sore.

I also have a funny red lump on my face which I've had on and off for over 4 years. It never quite goes away but gets bigger and smaller and feels rough. So if anyone knows what that is as well I'd appreciate it. I often get a really wiry hair growing out of it (nice).

I think hormones play a part, I have noticed a difference since drinking more water and taking evening primrose oil (though could be coincidence).

Whatever you do... DO NOT SQUEEZE them Grin

I don't think mine is rosacea btw as I don't have redness or little veins at the surface.

Wish I knew...I get them every so often on my temples, of all places. And every time squeeze them even though I know it's only going to make things worse.

32 sillysarah. What age would you get rosacea? I'm very pale and do have red cheeks, but not problematically so. Don't know much about rosacea!

They don't seem squeezeable at all, too big and no centre or head! I sound lovely Grin

Hormonal. Don't for the love of god try to squeeze them. If left they eventually go. Salicylic acid peels can help prevent them.

Thanks kauman. And yes mermaid, sore and swollen. Guess it could just be hormones, bah.

Looked at pics of rosacea, don't think my skins red enough and its def not shiny, tends to be dry if anything. No veins. And the spots are in random places like chin, middle of cheek etc, not concentrated together.

I get these too. Usually hormonal but sometimes due to my diet especially if around chin and mouth. If I eat too much dairy/cream I can practically guarantee getting one. Horrible things aren't they - there's no hiding them Sad

I got these regularly on my chin area - hard, painful and sometimes throbbing. I added Alpha H Liquid Gold to my routine and touchwood haven't had one since. So yes, in my case I think it was a cleansing/blockage situation along with hormones.

I get these and am certain they're hormonal. Perhaps talk to your GP about contraception and what might be more / less helpful. You have my sympathy.

Taking star flower oil really helps for those painful spots that never come to a head.
