Just thought id ask before i get spending more money tomorrow. I have blotchy cheeks, so they are usually always red in colour and go worse when ive been drinking or blush or get hot. so i need a foundation that can cover them a bit better. Im now using a green smashbox primer, its doing ok but would prefer something that gives more coverage.

In the last few months ive tried, numerous ones from chanel foundation, maybelline mousse foundation in a can and a jar, then laura geller baked powder, last week i ordered a smashbox bb cream and halo powder... and im still looking...

any ideas what I can try next?

I really like No.7 Lift and Luminate. Medium coverage and gives a nice glow.

I seem to be having some hormonal skin issues at the moment and have been finding Estée Lauder Doublewear really good.

It's quite thick (maybe slightly cakey if I'm being critical) but it covers so well that I'm finding I don't need concealer and has good staying power.

How are you applying the foundation? I've just started applying both Estee Lauder Double Wear (the old formula - last dregs of the bottle sad) and Laura Mercier Silk Creme with the Real Techniques stippling brush from Boots or Superdrug. What a difference! I have reddened cheeks too but using this brush has made my coverage better and it lasts all day.

nooooooo!! not another brush, ive just spent £56 on smashbox brushes for face and they have made such a difference. I do usually use my foundation brush as i always find whatever i use looks better than with my fingers.

Are you using just doublewear or doublewear maximum camouflage, I think the camo maybe what i need but wonder if its really heavy on?

Off to investigate a stippling brush now smile

frankietwospots Fri 28-Mar-14 21:49:26

Just DW (never heard of the camo one!).

vix1980 Fri 28-Mar-14 21:50:45

And now i own a stippling brush hmm

everytime i come on here my credit card groans!

frankietwospots Fri 28-Mar-14 21:56:00

You won't regret it! Be gone red cheeks!

frankietwospots Fri 28-Mar-14 21:56:53

Oh and there are some good videos on YouTube about how to use the brush (basically circular motions work best when blending).

vix1980 Fri 28-Mar-14 21:59:54

really, red cheeks will be gone?? Ill believe it when i see it but can feel a shopping trip tomorrow to try out double wear grin!

I suffer from rosacea across my cheeks and Clinique anti redness foundation seems to be doing the trick . Covers well but doesn't seem heavy on.

frankietwospots Fri 28-Mar-14 22:02:38

oh yes LisaMWill, I was thinking of getting the Clinique anti-redness primer. Have you tried that?

RhondaJean Fri 28-Mar-14 22:04:44

I came on to say Clinique redness solutions foundation is really good.

I use the cc cream under it rather than the primer, so can't help with that sorry.

Trouble is vix1980, Estee Lauder have changed the formula of Double Wear and I don't like the new version (thinner and does nothing for my skin) so I am desperately hunting out an old bottle (I got given a random phone number in a beauty store today of someone who may have some!). So don't go out buying DW on my recommendation as it will be the new formula, not the old one!

LisaMWill Fri 28-Mar-14 22:07:12

The Clinique woman tried it on me when I bought the foundation but I had the smash box one already. Was going to buy it once it's run out. It seemed good and less greasy than the smash box one

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob Fri 28-Mar-14 22:12:09

We could always embrace our redness. Just a thought. smile

vix1980 Fri 28-Mar-14 22:15:59

THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU!!! Im reading the details for the clinique anti redness foundation and it promises exactly what im looking for! I never even knew it existed grin

I also find the smashbox primers really greasy when on, i have the green one for redness and the normal one they sent me to try out. I tried both at once and did my makeup with each on either side of my face, half way through the day i was flushed but the side with the green primer on was considerably paler than the other, so it did make a difference. I may stop by clinique on monday when its less busy and see if they can try the bits out on me first. thankyou again, this is why I love this site!

frankietwospots Fri 28-Mar-14 22:42:04

John Lewis have 20% off across Clinique at the moment btw!

vix1980 Fri 28-Mar-14 22:54:55

ooh thankyou, i just need to know what colour foundation to go for though, I wonder if it will still be on tomorrow, i could nip into town in the morning and find out!

Onsera3 Sat 29-Mar-14 03:21:05

Or it's bonus time for Clinique at Boots but I think it's ending today.

I wonder if I have the new or old Doublewear? Bought recently but was from one of their outlets. I had read they'd changed the formula and sounds like it was silly of them.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen Sat 29-Mar-14 09:03:15

Lanacane anti chaff gel as a primer, same ingredients as smash box and Revlon colour stay buffed on with real techniques stippling brush or the dome one for heavier coverage.

vix1980 Sat 29-Mar-14 19:38:20

Well i rushed out this morning to boots, the lady there just couldnt be bothered to help whatsoever, she seemed more interested in chatting about last nights events with a young chap to the chanel lady! hmm

So off I went to john lewis where the lady was really helpful, she did my whole face with the anti redness stuff ad its amazing. Ive got the foundation and will be going back for moisturiser and other bits too at next payday! thankyou for mentioning it before i wasted more money on moure foundations to clog up my makeup bags! grin

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob Sat 29-Mar-14 20:50:01

How does it sit on the skin? I have a Clinique foundation, the anti blemish one, and it sinks into my pores and is a bit dry. It's okay if I mix it with some moisturiser though.

Lovemyfriends Sat 29-Mar-14 20:54:42

I bought the anti-redness foundation from Clinique today. As I'm at home, I've applied it to one half of my face. My husband said it looked air-brushed.

I want to see how well it works for my day-to-day blotchiness and flushing. I'm feeling optimistic!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen Sat 29-Mar-14 21:30:25

Oooo sounds good! Update in a few days and let me know if you still like it. Bare minerals bisque powder concealer is fab for covering redness.
