I'm in Norfolk unfortunately so can't recommend anywhere, I'm bit of a country bumpkin and only go to clubs in Norfolk, although will be venturing a bit further afield for some weekenders other than Hemsby this year

spent a summer in norfolk back in my uni days, my ex was from there. And dh's parents lived there for a few years. I love the centre. hate the a17 though reminds me of an american slasher movie and I was always waiting to die.

I have a vintage fair addiction. And a headscarf addiction.

I tend to do 60s more than 50s as I'm quite straight up and down in shape.

My Mum is getting married in a couple of months and is having a vintage themed wedding...church then pie and pints in the pub. She is having a 50's style circle dress with cap sleeves made, my sister is wearing a floral halter neck dress. My DDs are wearing sailor dresses (seriously cute!)

I am having trouble! For starters, I don't wear skirts or dresses. I have been thinking about these

With one of their halter tops, peep toe heels and a headscarf. I can knit myself a cover up of some kind (bolero? I can get a vintage pattern) for the church.

Struggling with colour though. I suit the blue/purple/green end more than red/yellow/orange.

lucy those are gorgeous, you could also wear them with a pretty silky blouse if you wanted to be more covered. And yes to lovely heels. Or if you wanted something different maybe a wide legged jumpsuit? (70s not 50s though) this one is nice though maybe black not great for a wedding!

Ooh Lucy I too have a headscarf addiction, bit gutted that I seem to have misplaced my leopard print one :( Your mums wedding and your outfit suggestions sound lovely, we're currently in the stages of organising our wedding for next May, now that I've been talked round from the two witnesses in the registry office route I've actually got quite excited. I'm actually joining slimming world soon autumnsmum just so that I can fit into a pair of Freddie's at the moment I have a couple of pairs of custom made high waisted jeans which are worn to death.

My DD has bought a 50's style dress for her formal (not from a specific shop, it just happens to look vintage ) I think it would look better with a petticoat. There are some on ebay, would they do the job? I don't wantoto spend too much, the dress was only £32 and she still needs shoes.

That looks great thanks . I have another question . Her dress is white with big black flowers in it, fitted at the top and then a fuller skirt. To make it a bit more dressed would a black petticoat look ok? She can't wear heels of any description, she fell over in a pair of my wedges, standing still , so she'll be in pumps.

The pumps will either be black and white or a bright colour . If we got, say, liac coloured would it look daft if we tried to get the same colour petticoat?

I love the 40's/50's and have been dressing solely in a retro/rockabilly fashion for the past few years.

I really want to get more into the scene and went to a few vintage fairs last year and have a couple more this year but don't really have anyone to go with as my friends not that keen

Is there anyone in the glasgow area that would be interested in coming with me? I managed to persuade my friend to come with me to the retro revival festival at Haydock last year but while I really enjoyed it,I think she was underwhelmed. Would love to go with someone who shares the same enthusiam as me!!

Aww Latraviata I wish we were closer as we go out 'in the scene' at least once a month, it's so hard here to find out anything about it until you are actually in it so although we had loved the music and wore the clothes we have actually only been in the scene for about 18 months. Have made lots of lovely friends and would recommend it to anyone, I went back to college this year to do an access course to go on to do a nursing degree in September and have thoroughly educated the class in the rockabilly scene I even gave a PowerPoint presentation and a stroll lesson

Cocolepew I'd say matching pumps to petticoat would look fab! I only ever wear heels to walk into a club then put my matching pumps on as soon as I want to jive or stroll

Thanks portly-yes its really hard to find out anything about nights out/fairs as I actually live a few miles outside glasgow and I don't drive.

I know your husband is into the scene too but my dh is so not! I think he believes I am having some sort of mid life crisis

Wayne Hemmingways vintage festival is coming back to glasgow in July-I went last year and it was great so am hoping to persuade a few people to come with me to that. I went to the Let it rock event last time and would like to do that again as was fun-even got asked to dance by a proper rockabilly boy!

Yes having a dp that's into it as me has made it easier, we've totally brainwashed our dd's too DD1 (12) is already planning which collectif dress she is wearing on Saturday it's bit of a family affair really as my dad is into the scene (again-him and dp are the same age and were into it in the late 70's early 80's) so we go out en masse

It was my gran who got me into the music-she was a huge Elvis fan. Have always bopped about my room wishing I wearing a petticoat but have only had the confidence to start wearing the gear fairly recently.

Just wish I had a like minded pal such as yourself to go to more things with! Have just done a bit of googling and actually found a couple of club nights in glasgow that look good but no way could I go on my own!!

Unfortunately all my pals are my age-nearly 40-with kids and dancing/clubbing not their thing!! Tried to persuade a couple of them to go to some weekenders too but its like pulling teeth!

Did manange to get to see Imelda May and that was great but again I was stood with all the oldies(light hearted)-when I really wanted to be at the front bopping with all the young rockabilly girls!

I must admit the first time we went it a club we sat outside in the car for ages before plucking up courage to go in We didn't dance for the first 5 months or so either, didn't think we'd ever be brave enough, now if we hear a song we can jive to, we're up regardless where we are, Gt Yarmouth seafront and the forum library in Norwich have been quite public ones so far

Are you on Facebook? That's a great way of meeting local people, there are loads of single women who want to go but lack someone to go with, dp gets loads of dances as most of our female friends lack a dance partner :)

Latraviata- good news is that Hemingway's vintage is back on this year as part of the Merchant City festival 26th and 27th July

Tickets are already on sale for torch club, not sure about let it rock- but you know from last year it was sold out waaaaay in advance.
