Wrong price tag in shop. Checked and double checked with sales assistant the price, they said yes that's right, it's £89.

Got to the check out - rang up as £159. Small conv. between staff, price adjusted to £89.

I am happy and guilty-feeling in equal measure....

Radley customer service are brill like this.

Last summer my Mum couldn't decide between 2, both in their outlet store, both about £50 each. The assistant said "well, I'll let you have both for £70"

Why guilty? If they had the wrong price on it they had 2 choices. With drawer it from sale or sell at the price advertised.

That's not stealing - neither did I steal our Vax Steamcleaner...

Popped into a local supermarket to do the shopping at the weekend. They had a Vax Steamcleaner reduced from £90 down to £40.

As my DH was packing the shopping they had to get a Supervisor over to authorize a 'big' item purchase that had been reduced. So Cashier and Supervisor authorized it and went on their way.

Got home and instead of charging us £40, they'd charged us 40p!!!!!!!!

Didn't even realise until we got home and wondered why our weekly shop had been so cheap considering what we'd bought!

I don't see how it is morally dubious? Not her fault at all, I would never return anything sold to me cheaper than the actual price at the end of the day it was the stores mistake not the customers, so be happy 40p is amazing! :)

Gorgeous handbag, lucky you! With regards to the Vax Steamcleaner if a casher and supervisor authorised it and still got the price wrong, that's their problem surely.

I had something similar happen to me but it was with a bottle of Sprite in the Springburn shopping centre

Its not stealing, they have to sell it to you at the price it says on the label otherwise shops could just make up any price when you get to the till. (So said the ubiquitious wee Glasgow woman in the queue behind me).

I had the opposite happen last week. Went into a shop, saw a scarf I liked, decided to buy it on impulse, and when the assistant rang it up at the till it was actually 60% off marked price in the sale . Made my day. Unfortunately (sort of) the shop was New Look so the original marked price was only £7.99, but still, five quid saving that I didn't expect was a total result.

THE FACTS Unfortunately not. This is a case of "if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is". If you happen to spot something that is incorrectly priced you have no legal right to buy it for that price. If you get to the till and the sales assistant notices, the retailer is within its rights to refuse to sell it to you for that price. This is also the case if you order an item online – if the mistake is noticed before you have been contacted by the retailer to confirm the sale, there is no legally binding contract and it is within its rights to refuse the sale.
However, if your sale has been accepted, you can insist that the retailer sells you the goods for the price at which they were advertised. Which?, the consumer group, said that in this case you might be able to buy the same item elsewhere and claim against the original trader for the difference in price. To do this you should write to the retailer in the first instance, explaining what you are doing. If it doesn't agree to refund the money, you will normally have to take a claim to the small claims court (see box above).
The trader could try to argue that it made a mistake with the pricing, voiding the contract. But it would have to show that the price was so low that you must have known it was not genuine: for example, a new leather jacket with a price tag of £2.

That wasn't the case here though. I would feel guilt free if I had checked the price and the staff definitely agreed. A good find.
