These are the jeans beloved of TOp gear presenters and many many men. Shapeless and serve no realy purpose apart from to cover flesh.
They don't flatter a shapely bum or focus on a firm thigh, and are often worn sans belt

MEN - bin the dad jeans

usualsuspectt Sun 16-Mar-14 17:20:08

My DP wears dad jeans with a nice dad jumper.

Hassled Sun 16-Mar-14 17:20:55

I don't think men over 40/45 should wear jeans really. It seldom does them any favours.

usualsuspectt Sun 16-Mar-14 17:21:47

What should they wear then? A nice pair of slacks?

Rattitude Sun 16-Mar-14 17:23:47

Chinos are more flattering if a guy's shape is not the best.

Cocolepew Sun 16-Mar-14 17:25:05

My DH doesnt wear clothes to flatter so other people can look and approve. He wears them to stop everyone having to look at his bollocks.

Nocomet Sun 16-Mar-14 17:26:01

DH would be happy to bear that he's refused to wear jeans his entire life and now he can claim to be too old.

Rattitude Sun 16-Mar-14 17:27:18

Fair enough, Coco. When I look round, a lot of men seem to feel the same as your DH...

BoJolly Sun 16-Mar-14 17:27:26

I don't think DH has ever bought an item of clothing with flattering his bum in mind.

noddyholder Sun 16-Mar-14 17:28:43

God yes The colour as well that golf course mid blue

MrsDavidBowie Sun 16-Mar-14 17:28:48

Dh used to wear baggy shapeless jeans which made him look...well baggy and shapeless. And he's a 34 waist so not huge.
He now wears slim leg jeans and looks a bit more contemporary. He's 55.

Fairylea Sun 16-Mar-14 17:30:33

I think most jeans are pretty hideous unless they are dark denim and cut relatively straight - and that goes for men and women (but then I'm not particularly worried about fashion).

Having said that, dh (who is an ultra trendy mid twenties indie rock so and so) wears black skinny primark women's jeans (as they are the tightest he can get them, he actually asked another bloke where his jeans came from and turns out a lot of indie men wear these!) and I think he looks very sexy... In an all American rejects lead singer kind of way.

Guess it depends on the man and the jeans!

Varya Sun 16-Mar-14 17:30:40

Wot about older women in jeans! My OH wears jeans and that's fine with me. I wear jeans too and they don't look as good as they did when I was younger but who cares anyway?

Trooperslane Sun 16-Mar-14 17:30:55

Hassled really?

My DH looks amazing in a pair of diesels and a Fred Perry with his DMs.

He his hawt stuff and the wrong side of 40.

I was top to toe in topshop today. We are not mutton dressed as lamb however I do agree with the op that JC style jeans are the boke.

Trooperslane Sun 16-Mar-14 17:32:01

Hoots at fairylea's DH.

Go on my son grin

LordPalmerston Sun 16-Mar-14 17:32:48

fairy you only say that as they are in fashion, in my youth I woudlnt have been seen dead in dark denim

MrsDavidBowie Sun 16-Mar-14 17:33:31

We need a photo fairylea

noddyholder Sun 16-Mar-14 17:34:09

My dp is 53 but looks v young god knows how! Still slim and in good shape and he wears slim jeans and blunstones and looks good Its the cut same as women

usualsuspectt Sun 16-Mar-14 17:36:13

Men is skinnys look like Max Wall. Especially if they have big feet.

Cocolepew Sun 16-Mar-14 17:38:50

is this your DH fairylea? wink

monicalewinski Sun 16-Mar-14 17:42:39

Skinny jeans on men are awful!! (Imo, but I am old so just don't get it).

Also shock at men over 40 shouldn't wear jeans!

As with women, different styles suit different shapes on men - but YES to banning the Jeremy Clarkson Jean.

Cocolepew Sun 16-Mar-14 17:48:06

Why shouldn't men over 40 wear jeans? confused

LordPalmerston Sun 16-Mar-14 17:48:32

my FIL ( think sean connery a like ) wears jeans and looks nice. he is 74 and a biker.
I would make them slightly straighter in the leg but hey

BoJolly Sun 16-Mar-14 17:54:32

Young age doesn't always equal style.

Some people (of any age) just don't know how to dress casual. I work in an IT Department and Dress Down Friday is all the proof you need.

noddyholder Sun 16-Mar-14 18:00:02

God LP he sounds cool!
