Longer tops

I don't think I am particularly long in the body and I'm a very average height but I have just realised how fed up I am of wishing my tops were about an inch (or more) longer than they are.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I have seen these, which I like, particularly for the neckline, but the review says they last about 5 minutes.

Just posting because I'm very long of body and would like to see what's recommended

I am actually very short bodied but even so, I wish almost every top I buy was longer. So I'm posting to see if other people have any brainwaves about what works!

Dorothy perkins.topshop and new look have "tall" sections

everythingsgoingsouth Sat 15-Mar-14 19:23:28

oh, whistles do a "layering" shirt, just an extra long white shirt, to go under jumpers etc

MuffTheMagicDragonButter Sat 15-Mar-14 19:25:15

I remember seeing H & M jersey dresses recommended on a thread about long tops.

I have this issue but think its because I'm bigger boo bed so stuff rides up. I like long H&M vest tops for wearing by themselves or under tops.

addictedtosugar Sat 15-Mar-14 19:39:10

H&M often have basic teeshirts and vest tops which are longer than average.

Same, I'm average height and not big-boobed but maybe I have a slightly longer back than average.

I end up using what are supposed to be tunic-length as tops a lot of the time. Normal vests are almost like crop-tops on me confused Ditto H&M are good for longer tops.

BikeRunSki Sat 15-Mar-14 19:49:17

Me too! Only 5'8" but long back.
I posted about this recently and was told to look at Vero Moda (cheapish) and Baukujen (pricey). I also have the Boden Hampton top in several colours as it is a good length.

I don't think that I'm long in the body, but I often wish that tops were longer. I bloody hate tops riding up, and I really don't want to flash my live handles / back to anyone when bending over (e.g. to get something from a filing cabinet). I think that companies are just stingy buggers, and a cm or two off every top = more £ for them angry.

Unless I am actually just long in the body grin. But then I'd have to have a corresponding short part.

SuburbanSpaceperson Sat 15-Mar-14 19:56:07

I have a load of these for wearing under other stuff.

phonebox Sat 15-Mar-14 19:56:11

Oh that's a good point Outer - maybe clothes shops are doing what chocolate producers are doing - cutting the cloth for more buck angry

A couple of years ago Primark did longer length t shirts. They were great as they weren't tunics. But not sure if they always do them. I suffer from this too. I would love to buy a dress that sat properly. Swimming costumes and tankinis are a pain too. Both my sons are like this and PJs are hard and I have to buy 2 years older tops so then the arms are all wrong.

FunnyLittleFrog Sat 15-Mar-14 20:00:12

Yes to H&M jersey dresses. I have at least 10 in different colours. I couldn't do without them.

KoalaFace Sat 15-Mar-14 20:01:54

I have about 8 of these vest tops they are only £4 and brilliant for layering.

I'm on the shorter side can can wear them like body con dresses blush.

OuterFromOutersville Sat 15-Mar-14 20:02:41

What do you mean though Frog? Do you wear the dress under a top? Or as a dress?

OuterFromOutersville Sat 15-Mar-14 20:04:33

I find that actual long line vests are longer than I'd like though - I just like a top that covers me, even when I'm bending over.

I tend to by maternity t-shirts whether pregnant or not, as they are longer and generally more flattering!

LaTrucha Sun 16-Mar-14 07:24:56

Ooo.! When I wet to bed last night I thought I had started one of my, 'No on is interested,' threads. Thanks for your replies. It's a good point about not actually wanting a really long to, just one that doesn't ride up and show my back when I bend down. Good point about bigger boobs too.

I suspect them of making them shorter and shorter too. I have been buying the same Boden scoop tee for years. The last one I bought, a few weeks ago, is the one that prompted this thread! (Glares....)

BikeRunSki Sun 16-Mar-14 07:28:11

I have just noticed that on the Gap website some tops face a "tall" option.

BikeRunSki Sun 16-Mar-14 07:28:37

Mary Portas' range in HoF is really good for this. I bought quite a few in the sale and they've washed really well.
